http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shittah-tree
Shittah-tree From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Shittah-tree is Hebrew for acacia. Acacia albida, Acacia tortilis and Acacia iraqensis can be found in the Sinai desert and the Jordan valley.
Shittah wood was employed in making the various parts of the Tabernacle and of the Ark of the covenant in the wilderness. It was the acacia or mimosa (Acacia Nilotica and A. seyal).
"The wild acacia (Mimosa nilotica), under the name of sunt, everywhere represents the seneh, or senna, of the burning bush. A slightly different form of the tree, equally common under the name of seyal, is the ancient shittah, or, as more usually expressed in the plural form, the shittim, of which the Tabernacle was made."
Reference Stanley's Sinai, etc. (Ex. 25:10, 13, 23, 28).

Actuyally the hemp was laid outr inthe rivers. Early man built their villages along streams and river banks creating clearings ot do their building.
Then they cleared away large areas of trees. And theat is where the wed hemp would flow and the seeds carried by birds and other animals grew in tose man made claerings.
The hemp was laid inthe water to ret so they could make fiber form it, eventually strings and ropes and even fishing poles. However before the poles, the hemp stalks lai g inthe water with buds and resin globules would float inthe water from the stalks and fish woudl nibble on it intoxicating them into a stupor and then float tot he top where they could be fetched from the shallow waters of the rivers along the serttlements.

makes perfect sense to me.

Errr, no.
Maybe I was saying that if there is a drug that you could take to see (the christian) god, this would be a good candidate.

Never forget baby_Hitler that everything we eat today was thropough natural selection of what would make us feel good eating something new and then again what would kill us if we consumed it as a source of food.
It was the early food hunter gatherers who tested all of the foods and juices and drinks we eat today. Someone in ancient times would taste something new at one time or another.
"Oog, ask?"" "Why is Google laughing?
Hm! replies, "Me eat shroomy Thingys."
And then one day later Oog asks, "Why Hm no move no more? He so still."
Booga replied, "He eat wrong shroomy Thingy."
So you see all of it was a matter of trial and error. mj

I thought God told us what we could and couldn't eat.
The modern human diet consists of a fraction of a percent of the phytochemicals it did just 10,000 years (about 400 generations) ago.
It is likely that this causes a significant amount of the conditions we know today as "diseases" when they may actually be deficiencies.

ive thought something simillarily before. I was thinking about all of the fast food people eat, all the processed foods. Natural foods contain small ammounts of bacteria and nutrients that are depleted when processed foods are made in order for their preservation. I think this is going to be a big problem for the human race in a time to come. This will lower their immune system. So when the big bugs come out to play, a lot of people are gonna find themselves 6ft under. O well, it might compensate for overpopulation..

If anything, I think we have already seen the worst of the consequences of standardized nutrition. Most of the genomes carrying genes dependant upon these phytochemicals have probably laready died off. Some of these deficiencies may still exist in the form of low fatality/low sterility. In other words people with the remaining phytochemical genes are living long enough to pass them on.

Sassafras in the primary ingredient of Root Beer followed by licorice.
Here is Hires recipe:
Quote:
Root beer has its origins in what is referred to as "small beers." Small beers are a collection of local beverages (some alcoholic, some not) made during colonial times in America from a variety of herbs, barks, and roots that included: birch beer, sarsparilla beer, ginger beer and root beer. Ingredients in early root beers included allspice, birch bark, coriander, juniper, ginger, wintergreen, hops, burdock root, dandelion root, spikenard, pipsissewa, guaiacum chips, sarsaparilla, spicewood, wild cherry bark, yellow dock, prickly ash bark, sassafras root*, vanilla beans, hops, dog grass, molasses and licorice. Many of these ingredients are still used in root beer today along with carbonation. There is no one recipe."
Another recipe:
Quote:
Here is just few things you'll find in Root Beer.
Bourbon Vanilla Licorice Root Sarsaparilla Root Extract Sasafrass Root Extract Nutmeg Anise Wintergreen Cinammon Clove Molasses Pimento Berry Oil Balsam Oil Oil Of Cassia Malted Barley Citric Acid Cherry Bark Fennugreek St. John's Wort Maple Syrup Yucca Extract Cane Sugar Corn Syrup and the list goes on ...
Quote:
HISTORY
The first documented evidence of the production of "root beer" was in the American colonies. Prior to that, sassafras was being shipped back to Europe after the New World was discovered. I have not found any evidence of root beer being made with it, only tea, and mead. (I have found one instance in Digby?s The Closet Opened where sassafras is an ingredient.)
Historians often credit Charles Hires with creating the root beer flavor we know today, but I believe that he simply made it popular. Here is a list of ingredients and countries from a 1922 pamphlet about Hires Root Beer.
Birch Bark - United States, New England Chirreta ? India Dog Grass ? Germany Ginger ? Africa Ginger ? China Ginger ? Jamaica Hires special plant Hops ? United States, Northwest Juniper Berries ? Italy Licorice ? Spain Licorice ? Russia Sarsaparilla ? Honduras Sugar ? Cuba Vanilla ? Mexico Wintergreen ? United States, North Carolina Yerba Mate, Brazil
In 1960 the FDA outlawed sassafras because it contains safrole, which was proven to cause cancer in lab rats. The primary element in the root beer flavor we know today is wintergreen.
Regarrding Acacia,
apparently it is not popular as a root beer ingredient as seen in the is lone article I found on the internet about root beer in scandinavia.
Quote:
Jacob Skaaning wrote:
> We don't have root beer in Denmark, I think.
That's too bad. I happen to be drinking some root beer, and this is what it says on the ingredients label:
Water
High fructose corn syrup and/or sucrose
caramel color
sodium benzoate
citric acid
caffeine
artificial and natural flavours
acacia
Granted, it doesn't state what the artificial and natural flavours -are-, but I'm assuming its from some form of root, probably from a sarsaparilla tree. I would surmise that any root would do, in a pinch.
So. Gather all the ingredients, and toss them together. I've been told that the order the ingredients are listed in are often the order of intensity -- for instance: there's more water than citric acid, say, but far less acacia than corn syrup.
And don't worry about finding corn syrup in your local store, because you won't. But you've probably heard it said that "corn syrup" is nothing more than glorified sugar, so go ahead and grab some granulated white cane sugar and go with that.
Acacia is where the trouble starts to hit, though. It turns out that acacia is, in fact, a type of bark, so it looks like you won't need that dogwood root after all. Unfortunately, its main habitat is in the Australian regions, grown in America for the sole purpose of harvesting for this particular treat. Dang and doubledang. Pick that dogwood back up again, will you?
Fortunately, acacia is so powerful, you only need a drop or two. Dogwood's not as strong; you might as well toss the whole thing in a blender and let it ride. Throw in the sugar, a couple glasses of water, some coffee extract, a drop of caramel for colour, some sodium benzoate (basically, salt), some citrus (lemon will do), and set on high for a few minutes.
What you have is one of two things: 1) a completely destroyed blender, because it couldn't handle the idea of liquefying a root, or 2) a very thick brown liquid.
If you have the former, then I deeply apologize, and you can send me the bill. If the latter, then you need to add a bit more water, chill, and then drink.
Disgusting, isn't it?
Well, that's what you get for using substitute ingredients. The real thing is much better, trust us.
mj
There were 28,000 pages on the internet abot root beer recipies.
