Been hunting a new suburban subdivision and a golf course behind it for the last 3 days. Only found a bunch of russulas, gyromitra, puffballs and a lone psathyrella that was almost looked like weilii for a second.

Im desperate at this point but not giving up I'm here for 3 more days. Weilii may not be abundant but I just know theyre out there somewhere...

They're definitely out now! The thing about Weilii is that 8/10 you'll have to get dirty to find them. 2/10 they'll pop right up and find you.

Failure and Success! No P.W. But found some puffballs

Recipe
Fried Puffball Ramen.

Ingredients
As many puffballs as you fan forage
I have 1 cup chopped puffball
1-3 cloves garlic (to your liking/Vampire killing)

3oz Ramen noodle
1/4 cup parsley. (fresh chopped.)
Salt to taste
Sesame oil 1-2tbsp
Pinch paprika
Grind some pepper or to taste

Instructions:
1. 2 pots on the stove 1 with hot water the other with the sesame oil.
Chop puffballs to 3-5mm slices about 1/4inch. Pan fry them in sesame oil, light heat for 5 minutes per side till starts to brown a bit. You may have to turn up the heat..

2. When you flip the puffballs throw the ramen in the water.

3. When the noodles are done and the puffballs are cooked Quickly strain noodles and mix all ingredients in frying pan and pan sear the noodles. Serve and eat hot.

After 7 days of searching tirelessly and hundreds of mushroom species later I had given up entirely. The oysters, reishi and turkey tail were not leaving me empty handed so I felt accomplished in my wanderings. Still I felt like something was missing. Woke up to smoke a bowl and I look down from the hardwood deck and saw an interesting looking lbm growing in the sloped pine mulched ditch behind the house.

" Nah," I said, "Couldn't be". Went down to investigate and it was true...after all this time searching and praying the weilii came to me. There is nothing like that melon aldehyde scent wafting into your nostrils.

Here is a shot with today's date and the spore color:

Could a newcomer Texan have stolen the title for last Georgia weilii of the 2015 season? One more day we shall find out.:smirk:

12/26/2015

12/26/2015

These 2 pics are the ones from 12/26, forgot to post them after I mentioned finding them. These guys were weird little mutated dudes, very low to the ground and all lumpy and asymmetrical. They turned a very dark blue so I expect them to be potent. They were also extremely meaty and solid stipe like my last December find.

I went out to another spot a few days later and found this on 12/29. Sadly I didn't realize how shit the pics were until later when it was already dry. It was a very busy park (lots of kids, families getting in the last warm days) so I didn't want to spend too much time looking weird 25 ft from the children haha.

12/29/2015

For some reason the 12/29 one didn't blue much until about 30 minutes after being picked when the area on the stipe that I squeezed to pull it up turned a very nice blue. There was a second one with him but it was older and had been rained on for a few days, so I threw it out in a nearby area that I haven't found them in yet. This patch produced a lot of beautiful fruits throughout this season, here's to hoping that it does well in 2016.

Speaking of that, what are you guys' experiences with hitting the same patches several years in a row? During the bat-shit crazy 2009 season I had a neighborhood that was just absolutely packed with fresh fruits every day. Every two or three days I could grab several dry oz in 20 minutes of walking without ever straying more than a few feet from the sidewalk, but the area never fruited again since then. There were probably about 60 or 70 houses in this neighborhood where they popped up extremely consistently so I have a hard time believing that we somehow ruined the patch. I literally picked maybe 1/3rd of what was visible due to not wanting to stray too far into people's yards. Has anyone else had problems with patches not fruiting consecutive years? It's almost like the mycelium network just exhausted itself or something.
