hey guys, yesterday I done up my first batch of agar and after I inoculated 4 jars with a syringe and placed a piece of colonizing grain on my other 4 jars I realized there was a small amount of liquid in the jars when I slanted them to one side !
im wondering what caused this and im also wondering if they will pull through alright ,im thinking the grain one will be alright but im not to sure about the ones I shot up .
any feed back wound be great ,thanks

Sounds like condensation from the lid fell on the surface of the agar.

Maybe try adding a little more agar to your mix? That or a little less water.
Also stacking your plates helps keep the condensation down while they set.

Some people flip their agar upside down so the condensation doesn't accumulate on the agar.

I get standing water on my agar and it causes no problems. Spores actually germinate better in a wet area. It's actually a practice to drop drops of sterile water on top of dry spores on agar from a print that's sat too long. Mycelium colonizes through it well. It actually seems pretty hard to mess up with agar.

Don't do this. Not for our purposes. It'll dry out too quickly. It's fine for a lab with cultures for a week but we can not see spores germ for a month sometimes. We can also store in the fridge for a long time too.
