Mine are definitely subs mate, was tripping balls last night
I've found the ones you have before when I first started hunting subs. When you feel the tough stems and see the blue bruising on subs there's no mistaking them.
Good luck.

the difference between a well seasoned hunter spore print was orange/brown, I had noticed some orange near the veil which had me wondering but it was wishful thinking!! I'll keep looking, what temps do you think we need to drop to before the start pinning? Cheers for the input!

Hey mate,
I dare say we live pretty close to each other. When the temperatures drop to around 8 degrees or less at night then the season will be on.
Give it some time.

Went hunting up around Jenolan today. Mushies everywhere. I didn't think at the time that I'd found any subs, but checking the pics on here again I had probably stumbled on heaps. Amanitas all over the place. Do subs grow in a similar habitat? Also how long do you need to wait to see them bruise? Squeezed plenty of stems but was only waiting 15seconds to look for any blue... is that long enough? Shouldn't have taken more photos of what I found, some of them must have been subs. Were any of these on the money?

None of those look like subs to me. Usually the bluing happens pretty quick if the mushroom is fresh but probably longer than 15 seconds.. wait a couple minutes and see.
You can see bits of blue bruising on the older ones most of the time from being rained on etc..
Did you pick any of those Amanita?

Orange is bad! Also subs don't really have a veil once the cap opens.
As far as I know they like it once the overnight temps are ~10°C

These ones are quite dry. Hard to say that you've eaten the same ones (though I hope so). Usually sub's caps look far more caramel in colour.
Always check for blue bruising and do spore prints!
Typically speaking anywhere from 1 to 4 subs (from around here) will have people buzzing pretty darn hard. And that's dried out also.
Many of my friends suspect that first mushrooms of the season are strongest (though I'm not sure that's anything other than having little tolerance built up).

Hey guys, went out again on the weekend and found some subs.
Didn't take many photos sadly as I was too busy picking but I got 3 which I thought I'd share.

I'm thinking about doing a day trip up to the Blue Mountains when the season starts.
