the great grain race

i am putting this in this forum because i am not going to grow these out. they will be used to do guerilla missions around town.
all the jars mentioned here are pints. the incubating temp is 84F.
popcorn, rye berries, and wheat berries were brought to a boil, then the heat was reduced to a simmer. they were simmered until the grain had absorbed the correct amount of water. they were then placed in a strainer, rinsed with cold water, and allowed to dry for 10 minutes.
each type of grain was loaded intp jars and pc'd for 75 minutes at 15psi. as the pc reached 0 psi, it was moved infront of a flowhood where the jars were removed, shaken and set to cool overnight. the next day (today), each jar was inoculated via g2g using 1 heaping tablespoon of colonized wbs.
lets see which one wins the....GREAT GRAIN RACE OF '04.

G2G means grain to grain transfers, http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/24330 , there is a good link to what grain to grain transfers are and how to do them, courtesy of automan. My money is on the rye berries, keep us updated!!!

Some guerilla missions, huh? Sounds interesting. What are you planning on doing? Putting the colonized substrate around town just to help the species keep its love flowin?

heh... that's a good idea, you should do it on campus at a college so they will go to good use, just don't get caught

it has been 18 hours. the inoculation points (wbs grains) are beginning to recover. i have to say that i am impressed with how the wheat berries handled. they handle like rye, but are smaller... more like wbs. if the wheat works best, i think it could make a nice compromise betwen the water storage abilities of rye and the size of wbs which is good for g2g (more inoculation points.)

update: at 36 hours, the wheat berries have taken an early lead. the rye and popcorn are tied for second place.

at 50 hours, the popcorn has taken first place. the rye is definitely in last place.

do popcorn and cracked corn work the same way? if so, wouldn't cracked corn provide more innoculation points?

i dont know anything about cracked corn.
update: there is a rye explosion going on. the rye has passed the wheat and caught up with the corn. i'd say that the wheat is a very close second place, though. its going to be a close one.....photo-finish.
