Spoiled Brown Rice Flour

Ok, there was a bag of brown rice flour stored inside a bag of vermiculite for almost a year. The brown rice flour turned all gross and black. My question is, would the vermiculite still be okay to use, since it did not directly touch the brown rice flour?

I wouldn't use it unless it was absolutely impossible to get more vermiculite.

Agreed -- I mean is it that hard for you to get more vermiculite?? If you were to sterilize it it might be o.k., but it would be much better to just get new stuff.

If you absolutely have to use it, you might could bake it in the oven to sterilize it. I don't know how hot you can cook it, but it's just expanded mica, so it should be able to handle 500F.

lol, no I don't absolutely have to use it. I'm just cheap and don't want to go buy more vermiculite. I don't really know the nature of brown rice flour, but I don't think it was mold. Nevertheless, could have leaked toxins into the bag. I'll just go buy some to be on the safe side.

make 1 or 2 jars with the fucked up brf and just see what sort of wonderful contams you can grow.....do this well away from your myc projects...contams can be cool.
