weird dream
    #2158417 - 12/04/03 04:26 PM (13 years, 2 days ago)

i dreampt that i was lying down and for some reason i had a fire-poker w/ me and i was trying to stab myself in the heart. i tried about 7 or 8 times but i kept missing. i finally got myself square in the heart and i instantly couldn't move or breath. my breath was sucked out of me and i couldn't breath at all. i was trying but i had the feeling you get when you are holding your breath for a long time. i honestly thought that was it and i was dying. i knew i was in a dream but i thought i was done for and i was dead, i thought my life was over and done:(. i finally tried very hard to breath and i woke up with a large breath.

this was a very strange dream and i have no idea if it means something but it was kinda scary and very very funked up.

I read a little while back that some doctor theorized that babies who die from sudden infant death syndrome are dreaming about being in the womb, where they don't have to breathe, and so they stop breathing and die. This theory was based on analysis of adults who held their breath while dreaming about swimming. Maybe what you experienced was a normal (albeit dangerous) kind of human occurance?

it was very realistic, i couldn't breath or move, like when my heart was stabbed i couldn't move the blood anymore or function. maybe anyone else has had an experience like this before??

This doesn't sound exactly like what you're describing, but sleep paralysis is somewhat common -- it happened to my little brother a couple of years ago and really freaked him out. You might want to look into it, at least to rule it out?

Wouldn't they go unconscious and then start breathing automatically?

thanks for the read sunyata, i don't think it is sleep paralysis because it happened while i was dreaming right before i woke up. when i woke up i was able to move and breathe fine.

Why were you trying to stab yourself in the dream?

no idea, i just knew that i was going to and i was trying until i did. trying to stab my heart has been the most irregular and random occurance in any dream i have had i think.
