possible liberty caps found late in season
    #2157657 - 12/04/03 08:34 AM (20 years, 3 months ago)

i was raking my lawn today when i spotted some mushrooms growing near a tree. they were small (an inch or inch and a half at most) they were slightly shrivled and frost bitten from the looks of it. since the season for hunting them around nova scotia is pretty coming to an end.
they were growing in a small patches. the cap is a brownish colour with a noticable nipple and darkened area where the nipple is. the nipple isnt as noticable because of the state they are in but it is clear one existed before. the gills are jet black. the stem is off whitish i guess, seems tough, but they also seem slightly dry as well.
the picture is trash because i dropped my digital camera and now it doesnt focus well on up close pictures but you can sort of get an idea from it.
thanks

the picture is poor.
it makes the caps look bigger than they are because the stems are mostly snapped in half.
the shape of the cap isnt as easy to see in the pic, it seems more rounded and keep in mind these are a little dry/frozen.
but you're probably right

Looks like Coprinus to me. Coprinus aren't active. We really need a better descripton...

I agree with GumbyDude. They look like dried coprinus micaceus. Hard to say for sure with this picture though...

Defenitely not active, and if they are micaceus, defenitely past their consume-by-date.

I am very sure that those are not Liberty Caps.
However, keep looking, cos over here in the UK, the libertys are still out in abundance.
