Mycelium Fluffing up?
    #21580556 - 04/22/15 03:04 PM (9 years, 28 days ago)

So these jars were close to being done but slowed down a lot. I know some people say to flip and some say not too, but I flipped them and they started growing pretty quickly. Only problem is that the mycelium looks like it's fluffing up or something right around the edge of the growth, not sure why. Is it just filling the extra space since it has room? I sure hope I didn't get cobweb in all my jars by flipping :frown: also, one of them is starting to pin like crazy. Kinda neat, but I've heard that can be a sign of contam. Has anyone else had their mycelium fluff up like this?

myc will fluff up like that when humidity is high.

your last jar looks like it has pink mold in the middle region

Its possible all your jars have contam issues.

The jars are kind of bumpy and so it throws the light off. Im not seeing what you mean by bacteria. Also how can you tell the pink mold and stuff? It all looks white in person.

I dont see any pink, but the bacteria is because of the walls the myc has built towards the uncolonized parts,
and how it looks thick and creamy kinda like a mat over the brf.

Is there any way to salvage this? and are you certain? I waited to flip until just a couple days ago, I thought the mycelium would be pretty stable. Damn

That's not the light playing tricks.

A few things for future attempts.
1) Try using the short 1/2 pint jars, they tend to colonize quicker.
2) Coffee filters and tape are not adequate to use as filters.
3) Don't flip your jars.
4) Listen to experienced cultivators. The 2 previous have been pretty kind. The tuff love answer is your jars should be thrown away and start over.

:goodluck:

Sounds good, but the coffee filters were just a dust barrier. I have read that many people just leave the holes open with the dry verm layer for protection, so I don't think that was my issue.

looks like your jars are 80% colonized.
Now, i know alot of people will say throw out, which is prob the best.
But if you insist, take only the myc from each jar, throw into trays with substrate and hope for the best.
Ive done it a few times and ive always produced some fruits from it.

or just rinse off the uncolonized parts and fruit the rest as a cake in a sgfc
no need to drag that myc through more work now, as long as mold doesnt show up you're OK to fruit!
