Vert has been a big problem for years. If you go through a lot of old grows that people thought were fine you can see it everywhere. But the real reason its easier to spot now is the use of set and forget monos. Best way to fight it is FAE. dial your stuff in for lots of it. Some parts of the world have bigger issues with it as well. Many eastern states have real issues with it. Penn U has many good papers and devotes a lot of research to it as its a major plight over there.
Of course its a white mold and sometimes doesn't show up as easy. The symptoms are manifest in the fruits as well so for years people would be like "check out this mutant" not realizing that their grow was simply contamed.

The nice thing about living in a super dry climate is that once I spot vert I can mitigate it really easily. I did discover that because it's so dry I absolutely have to use casings, and vert likes casing layers. There was definitely a slight vert problem in this last GT tub I did, which I left uncased. It seems manageable to me because of the dry climate though.

Damn. Now I'm scared I'm going to be plauged with vert I don't know a whole lot about it. Enough to probably spot it but that's about it

I know the contam info page says that vert is introduced at casing but in reality its usually brought in at spawning. I like a casing as it really lets you up the FAE while still maintaining a good microclimate at the surface, just long enough to get the pinset in. Another thing people don't realize is that vert can be in your agar culture riding along. Because its a white mold its really hard to spot in a grain jar, hell its hard to spot on a plate. Most of the time it meshes right in with the myc and just looks tomentose. Trying to clean up a clone with it is near impossible. So inspect your cultures carefully. Vert in culture is slightly disorganized and more aerial. It grows slower than cubes in the low 70's so watch your temps and only transfer from the very leading edge.

When you said the eastern states I started getting nervous lol. I'm working on something now, some of which I'll end up fruiting in open air. I can't let vert destroy this

Clean your grow area well, avoid spawning in the kitchen or near house plants. Dial in conditions for max FAE. If the vert can't thrive in a fruit, it won't sporeulate. Keep temps in the low 70's and only mist when you have to. Eventually your sporeload gets reduced and you will rarely ever see it.

No. It does look a touch bacterial but if there is vert in there the conditions are not favoring it enough to manifest itself.

Yes, that tub did turn out to be contaminated after the first flush. Like I said it was my first grow from a year ago lol I still pulled a little under 3 oz from it.

No, vert is rare on a pf grow especially if one is fruiting in a sgfc. It can happen but its rare. What you have described sounds like pseudomonias tolaasii.
