the sukioden series
    #21569928 - 04/19/15 10:08 PM (9 years, 30 days ago)

any other huge fans of this series? they only made 5 ( the last one in 2006, and unless there is a fan resurgence with the PSN release, there wont be another) and a few side realeases, like suikoden tactics and suikoden tierkries

it has a huge cult following, and honestly, they are way better than final fantasy. even the english translation is better. better music, better backgrounds & art, more characters to recruit (suikoden games all have 108 characters to recruit, and 75%(and 50% or more are easily missable) are useable in combat, FF only has 4-10 per game)

its a damn shame they quit making suikodens. all of them have been popular in japan, china and NA/EU because of the good translations and very origional gameplay for an RPG (3 different battle types)

and these classic games(they are all fucking awesome, with the possible exception of IV if you're a party pooper) are virtually unknown compaired to dragon quest or final fantasy. the entire script is very poetic even in english. they are very political and mature stories (there isnt some evil guy who wants to destroy the planet like in FF games, everyone is politically motivated)
the world map is large, but usually only 1 or 2 continents. the overall scale of the "suikoden world" is massive but does have many overlapping elements and very rarely breaks away from canon suiko history. the games werent made in chronological order, but they are 99% chronologically correct. some characters appear a hundred years away from another game in the series, but they usually have a reason to be there (remember, theres magic )

anyways i have no idea why i made this thread or what im lookin for in replys. i just really like suikoden and feel like its largely ignored when it comes to RPGs.

any other shroomerite suiko lovers?

I'm a pretty big fan of the first one. I've played it many times, and I've got a tattoo of the Soul Eater Rune. I played a bit of the second, but never finished it. I really need to go back and play through the whole series.

they're great. II is my favorite i think, but between II III and V its a hard choice. only played I once, and long after its time, so the others have a nostalgia factor for me

Easily one of my all time favorite RPG series.

I think I'd say III SLIGHTLY edges out II because it's the first of the series I played. That being said, Luca Blight is easily among the most badass antagonists of any game I've ever played.

I like the games themselves
I hate playing games on the ps1 and having to sit through a black screen before every fight
