You think it's best for someone with little experience to stretch there spawn beyond 1:1?

yes. 1:1 is a waste when you dont have tons of spawn, 1:2 is a great ratio!

Well, I guess he'll be alright if he is just spawning to cvg.

there's not much difference in colonization times between 1:1 and 1:2 really.
once myc gets a hold of the sub it eats pretty fast.

But anyway, lets wait and see if any of the jars turn out healthy first of all :super:

In tubs that big, you are looking at about 5-8 quarts of spawn to about 8 quarts of bulk substrate. Are those jars 170g of rye before or after hydration? Each quart jar should contain between 165-185 dry grams of grain.

After hydration. I don't use quarts, I'm from EU. The type of jars I am using are those Foster Clark Jam Jars

you dont need to do a 1:1 ratio, 1:2 is fine and 10qts of spawn can easily fit those 2 tubs!

Forgive me, I'm a noob. I don't understand the ratio in discussion

I want to help you but I'm afraid my advice just isn't going to pass through one particular poster's filter. I mean if I tell you that a quart is equal to 4 cups or 1 litre, I'm sure I'll be corrected in some way shape or form. I cultivate the same way I bake bread, weights and percentages but I'm a loner so I have had to do alot of converting volume measurements. It's simple really, go on yahoo or google and type in quarts to litres, grams to mililitres, etc. Grain spawn is never exactly a quart of grain. I use anywhere between 2 - 2 1/2 cups of hydrated grain per quart jar because it's best to leave room for shaking purposes. Hope this helps.

yeah litre = qt it's so close anyway.

1:2 ratio means 1 part grain spawn to 2 parts bulk substrate.

Thank you so much guys! I'll see how much I have and calculate myself  You guys have been a serious big help.

Temperature are stable 25.3C  I just went in today and saw the recovery. I think I might have fluff mold, not sure. I'll make a new thread and post the new pictures
