    #21571250 - 04/20/15 10:53 AM (9 years, 30 days ago)

Hey guys

I went out and found some mushrooms today, i was hoping you guys could help me identify them. After a few hours of research it looks like they might either be gymnopilus purpuratus or galerina.

Habitat: Found growing on deadwood in forest near Perth area.

Gills: Dark yellow colour with dark black patches on them (pretty sure its just dirt)

Stem: Colour is Tan brown/cream/yellow, Texture is smooth, stem is hollow and thin when young, medium thickness when older, length around 3cm.

Cap: 1.5-6cm in diameter, colour is dark, tan, violet brown. Caps are both flat and convex.

Spore print color: Yellow/Gold/Light Brown/Rusty colour

Bruising: Bruises light brown/yellowish

Other information:
Mushrooms smell like store-bought edible mushrooms.

Also just to be sure, all these mushrooms are the same species yes?

Thanks guys

They might be Gymnopilus purpuratus, were they growing on wood? Do they look like Tricholomopsis to you? Do they stain green or blue at all?

Yes they were growing on wood. I don't think they are Tricholomopsis, the closest looking Tricholomopsis i could find is Tricholomopsis rutilans and they are distinguishable just by looking at them. The spore print on them is also white, mine are yellow/brown.

And no they don't stain blue or green at all. It's more a light yellow/brown colour.

Upon further inspection i think i may have picked two different types of mushrooms. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

Here's mushroom 1 (the one i labeled as medium mushroom in the OP)

Here's mushroom 2 (These are the ones i used for the spore print)

Turns out Mushroom 2 does actually bruise blue, mushroom 1 doesn't seem to bruise at all.

Do you think they are Gymno Purpuratus? Want to be as sure as possible before i eat any.

Thanks for the response so far btw

Yes definitely Gymnopilus species. There is a lot more than just the described "purpuratus" in WA. Most of them are active but aren't very potent.

If you're considering eating them. You might want to consider making a tea from around 100-150grams fresh. They don't taste very good and the amount you will have to eat will make it difficult.
