I've been locked out of the shroomery for the past week off and on.. more off than on. This is about the second time I've been able to get in the past week..when I try to load any page on the shroomery it comes up as nonexistant (website not found), but other shroomerites don't seem to be having a problem. This is only with the shroomery, every other website works fine for me.. I deleted internet history, cookies, everything.. even tried fiddling with my dns numbers as suggested by papaver.. to no avail. Am I suffering from some mysterious phenomena, or is the illumanati fucking with me again? Thanks.

I had this problem starting about a week and a half ago. For some reason, shroomery.org wasn't showing up with Internic when doing a whois query from _some_ locations, but was fine from others. (Internic is like an index used to locate the name server which in turn allows your computer to locate the shroomery.... so if internic doesn't reply correctly, you get a DNS/site not found type of error).

I switched my local DNS settings to an alternate server and everything started working fine. I manange my own DNS servers, and I know that nothing had changed locally. Assuming your problem was the same as mine, I suspect the issue lies with internic or the root DNS servers and has nothing to do with the shroomery or your ISP directly. I didn't spend a lot of time digging, so I could easily be wrong.

if you got DNS problems try connecting direct to the shroomery's IP http://69.28.129.195

This is most likely due to the fact that the domain names were recently taken from myself and put into Thor's name. I can't really go into detail at this time as to why, but I can tell you I'm not happy about it.

No... the problem I was having happened about a week before anything changed with the contacts on the Internic records. As I said, whois works fine from some places and not from others. Lemme look on my server that was broken and see if it still is:

Quote:

# whois shroomery.org

Whois Server Version 1.3

Domain names in the .com and .net domains can now be registered
with many different competing registrars. Go to http://www.internic.net
for detailed information.

No match for "SHROOMERY.ORG".

Domain Name: SHROOMERY.COM
Registrar: GKG.NET, INC.

As you can see, the above is broken, but I have no idea why... I updated the named.cache file on my DNS servers to the latest version at Internic:

Quote:

; This file is made available by InterNIC
; under anonymous FTP as
; file /domain/named.cache
; on server FTP.INTERNIC.NET

and my DNS started to resolve shroomery.org once again. I am not sure if the update helped, or just HUPing the name server made the difference. Either way, this is unrelated to anything regarding contact names on the records themselves.

Shroomism.... ask your ISP to update the named.cache on their name servers and your problem should go away.

Could it be the fact that our bind server was down for about a day?

If the problem has been off and on for a week or more, then a day of bind/named being down wouldn't matter. Internic has been making changes to the root web servers... ISPs need to update their named.cache to resolve properly.

Shroomism has been having this problem for a while. It is similar to the DNS problems I have encountered over the past few months, and I believe is likely to be the result of Seuss' earlier conjecture...

I'm having problems accessing the site too, sometimes it fine and
everything works the next minute its like the website is gone.
I usually access the site through anonymous proxy so I tried a
direct connect. Same issues. I understand the DNS cache explanation,
and think it might be a root server DNS issue as you described
seuss. As I would assume the URL resolve is done by the proxy not
my ISP while using a annon proxy.

Any ways just thought i'd say me too  :nut:
Doesn't sound long term, sure is annoying though.
