UGH!

So I have my incubator set up for thanksgiving break...my pint popcorn jars are just shaken up...mycelium quite thin but still covering quite a bit...and I come back 4 days later to find that the water/incubator was at 73 degrees and the aquarium heater was busted, and NO mycelium growth that I could notice.
So really I'm just venting and quite frustrated...had hoped to be able to case this week so I could get yields before I go home for christmas break to bring back to my high school friends...I guess there still is hope but ugh not nearly as much..

Wow, my fishtank heater causted 23 bucks, it better not break... So far mine's been going just fine. I have a 50w one, and its actually quite nice... Check out Petsmart for a new one, and make sure you get a fully submersible kind. Sorry that happened man! Shit happens, right?

OK so related question now...so I've shaken up my jars a few times now and I think I've noticed something but I want to know if I'm right. It seems after shaking up the jars, the mycelium takes a day or so before it starts growing again...like it is damaged a little and needs to regroup itself...so I probably shouldn't shake the jars more than a few times during the whole process?
Just want to know if my conclusion is right or wrong... Thanks

Your right, it is a bad idea to shake your jars more than twice during the process. If you time it right you should only have to shake once for fastest colonization. Anything more than that and you're just slowing it down.

i've had more problems than benefits with jars that i've shaken, personally. can't count the number that looked promising, were shaken, then ended up fucked. these days i prefer to leave them mostly unshaken. perhaps if i had an old car tyre or something to break if up fully, it'd be better, but still...

Yeah, Im also thinking of fitting a spare tyre up lol. but for now i just use an old folded up towel to tap them against on a table top.
One thing that tmc says is that if jars don't recover well from shaking, that its a sign of contamination, mainly from bacteria.
so if a jar isnt showing regrowth after 12/24 hours then theres a good chance its contaminated.

After you inoculate, wait 7 to 9 days, and check them. If you see white spots about the size of a dime to about the size of a nickle; shake them. You shouldn't have to shake them again after that.

I've just started using grains(millet) but so far shaking has really sped things up...I shook after innoc then at around 5 % and a couple at around 50% the others didn't need it and are almost done

I've always shaken the jar right after inoculation to spread the good luvvin mycelia all around.

OK sorry for all these questions but don't want to start new threads...um is it bad if I start a brf cake batch now, but then refrigerate them starting about 3 weeks from now for 2 weeks, then continue incubation? Will this bad bad for the mycelium? I just need to be gone during xmas break and want to have something to come home to when I get back
