Yeah -- that's not what you're supposed to use :wink:

I would think that you could still colonize it, though, especially if it were hollow.  The only reason you couldn't would be if it were toxic to the fungus.

Doesn't mean it will nessecarily fruit well, though....

there are two considerations to bear in mind:

1.) do these grasses/weeds contain enough and the right blaance of nutrients to allow the mushrooms to fruit?

2/) do they contain any toxins taht might be harmful to humans if bioaccumulated and concentrated in strong levels by the mushrooms?

a good thing to do would be to go to the feed store you bought the hay from and ask if they know waht weeds/grasses went into the straw.

the second problem is not particularly likely, as many compounds wich might be harmful to humans will be harmful to livestock aswel; though, this is not always the case.
