Lighting during fruiting..is it necessary?
    #2153958 - 12/03/03 01:26 AM (20 years, 3 months ago)

I'm fairly new to cultivating and I was just wondering whether or not the mushrooms have to be exposed to light during fruiting? And, if so, what type of light should be used?

yes they need lighting during fruiting, some say an hour or so a day is sufficient--some say 12/12--our little friends prefer the blue color spectrum also

change thread to lighting during fruiting

yea they need light just to know which way to grow, 12 hrs on 12 hrs off of flourescent light is good, or 12 hrs on and 12 hrs off of indirect sunlight is good too. Good Luck

Take a look at the FAQs, link at the top of your screen, you should read the mushroom cultivation section, at least the basic stuff, will be helpful for you. Happy cultivating!

When I first started I didn't know much, and had no idea resources like this existed. I was using BRF cakes, and I fruited giving them only 15 minutes of light a day. They fruited like crazy too. Oh well, guess I was probably just lucky.

shaftinmp...doesn't really matter, the specific timing of light for shrooms isn't nearly as important as for other plants...just make sure it gets 8-12 hours per day or so...light won't hurt it, unless it is too intense...keep the light somewhere in between direct and ambient...you know? hehe

does it matter what type of light you use? can you use just an ordinary lamp or does it have to be flourescent, actual sunlight, etc.?
