Frist grow, second attempt, no mycelium

8 days with no mycelium growth at all. Using verm/brf cakes, it looks like the jars have setteled since inoculation and there is a half inch of space where the vermiculite top layer used to be. Temperature has been steady at around 72 degrees in the open air.

Did you inoculate toward the outside of the jar?

I did, but I used the taller 1/2 pint jars...which I read afterwards were not good to use. I have some 1/4 pint jars that I will inoculate today. Ive already missed 2 full moons and an eclipse. Frustrating

Really? As long as it's a wide-mouth pint it will be fine. The only difference between them is the colonization times... People say that the short and fat half-pints colonize somewhat faster.
They might just be taking awhile... It does happen. I've read where some people haven't seen growth for around two weeks.. sometimes longer. I imagine the temps of the room the jars are in are decent? Somewhere between high 60s and high 70s?

If you used an MS syringe it can take upwards of 2-3 weeks to see 1st growth. If you decide to move up to grains and bulk you can avoid that wait time by performing Grain 2 Grain transfers of myc that is already healthy.

Did you use a syringe from a sponsor? I have tall half pints too and I've had no issue with them. Do you have pics? I don't think you should have space in the jar either. The dry verm layer should fill up the last half inch of the jar.

Just give it time. Sounds like Temps could be a little low almost. If you're nervous and can't wait... JUST MAKE MORE! :P
For real tho some jars can take 5 weeks sometimes more. I've heard of people seeing no growth or contamination for 4+ weeks and they forgot about it in the back of the closet and checked 2 or 3 months later and it was almost done

I suspect there might be a bacteria problem with many of those. But like everyone above, I agree that 8 days is no big deal to wait for germination.

Well best thing to do and is what I do now is put the syringes onto agar. Then put it into jars. Only way to make it clean imo

This stuff is so new to me. Been enjoying fungi for 15 years or so, but mycology is something I am looking to take serious.
There is another 12 jars in the PC now. My house temp is usually around 72, but I have all of the supplies for an incubator but everyone shot it down on the boards.
I may be graduating from PF tek before my first fruiting. What is the best tek for most amount of fruits?

Right now Ive been using a top shelf in my room, so the light comes in during the day time to some extent. Is there a better place to store the next batch?

I am practicing using light in all stages for a grow, I've read light is used to convert some nutrition to a usable state.
Had a bag of rye that took 4 weeks to germinate from MS syringe, fully in the dark. Think it was old spores though.
