i find the plastic lids much better to use than the metal lids. one piece and no rust.

i've been using plastic lids for at least 2 1/2 years and have never had a problem.
the only way they will melt is if the lids are up against the side walls of the cooker. i had a large load to pc one day and the last jar wouldn't stand up straight, so i leaned it over and the lid was up against the side of the pc. it melted a good bit. that was probably two years ago and i still use that lid.
tremor - right. the rust doesnt hurt anything, but it is a little messy at times and if you happen to slice your finger or hand on the side of a plastic lid, you won't need a tetanus shot.

The plastic lids work fine in a pressure cooker. Most plastics won't melt at those low temps. 1h30m@20psi doesn't harm them at all. They say "not for processing" because they don't provide the air-lock seal that the metal ones do. Metal sucks, get plastic
