First hunt outcome, spore prints underway.

Don't mind the pins they were from my property so no pin raping occurred for you public area hunters.
All the best to my fellow Amateur Mycologists!

Don't suppose a brother could help a cuzzy out? Scot here, will be arriving in Christchurch 18th of May, meeting my girlfriend, and driving to her home in Queenstown days after.
I just bought two groupon nakedbus passes. If I can't find actives near where she lives, I plan to use them to go get me some. I have a few questions:
What active species are most common in the Otago region? Queenstown specifically. Last time I was there, I remember plenty of Amanita's, but fuck those things.
Also, what sort of timeframe are we looking at for the season starting, peaking and ending? If I do travel further, where would you suggest?
Any other information would be great!
Cheers lads

I'm north of Auckland Blazer420, but I was on holiday in the Hawkes Bay region for the mushroom find, where it's very, very chilly. Only problem is finding woodchip as there's so many grass parks with hardly any chip, good luck with your finds my bro.

Hi there Jim, I'm probably not the best person to answer your questions, but I'll give it a crack.
P. Subaeruginosa is a good possibility in your finds down there, as the North Island already has finds. Woodchip gardens are your best bet.
I can't speak for South Island mushroom pickers but by the sound of it the season's in full swing.
Cheers, Tryptdemeanor.

Nice one. Any chance you remember the area you found those. I have couple spots so far but I've only got into it last year after a 15 year break where I lived in a different part of the country.
Cheers

Auckland. #1 #2 Found a lonesome #1 surrounded by a lot of a lot of small white ones like in the second pic. Didn't take any with me since they were too small. Someone may have beat me to the spot.

Auckland has had a nice weekend of crazy rain, but a heap of wind too so ill leave the hunting for another couple weeks.
Why does the wind matter? There's been so much rain over the last couple days, and with the season now apparently sneaking up in New Plymouth and Hawkes Bay, I reckon she's worth a look, Aucklanders. I will try sneak in a quick peak today.
Went for a scope on the shore today. Conditions are perfect but it's still too soon I'd wager, a couple of weeks and shit will be cracking!
Anyway, didn't go in the end. But will definitely go soon.. and I will find them subs before you if it kills me. hehe

Have seen a couple of Coprinopsis, and another unidentified woodchip species around Auckland. With the rain and cold in the last couple days I won't be surprised if we get a few subs popping up very soon!

Hi Scot, that is an awfully revealing amount of information and I hope it does not comprise your travels. The Otago region is a vast area and depending on where you search you will find different species, though P. subaeruginosa, P. subsecotioides and P. semilanceata are the most abundant. The temperature and humidity is optimal at this time of year down south, P. subs and subsects are mostly commonly found growing in wood chips of Pinus radiata or Eucalyptus. People have also had success searching for liberty caps in grasslands of higher altitudes in and around Queenstown and the Otago region.

That's interesting, I never knew that subsecotioides were found so far south. What regions of the South Island are they found in?
