Anyone here know fords? I know darn near everything out there but fords and a friend has a 1990 mustang with a 302 that we need to get running next sunday any special things we should look out for? Car runs like a raped ape normally but when jumped it'll run for like 15 minutes before it shuts down. He just put a new alternator in it so I'm thinkin it is a dead short any Ideas???

Hmmm fuel pump maybe not putting out enough pressure?
First thing that comes to mind.
But it could be many things. Like you said a short, if it is a short those can be bitches to track down.

No it just shuts off. I'm thinking it is electrical The gauges go all kabluie but the lights still work I'm thinkin it may be a short somewhere in the dash. The car is not stock His grandfather had the motor custom built and it is injected. But I can't ask the Grandfather since he died 5 years ago My friend got the car in the will and he knows nothing about cars so he's not much help. I'll have to wait till sunday when I have more time to go over it.

hmm..
it can be tough in a situation like that
meaning when someone has to go behind someone else's "thing" me and my friend just gone done fixin a bass boat that was acquired the same way my friend says his papaw would love it that boat is sweet
anyway you cant like use an OBD tester on it either can you?? it kinda sounds like a safety shutoff thing to me 15mins is almost enough time for the engine to get to temp?? the gauges going crazy sounds maybe like somethings miswired
I dunno im just guessing right now

Been looking around and the symptoms seem to be the TFI modual on the dtstributor as far as the car shutting off. He has a new distributor cap and plug wires just not sure if he bought plugs. Might as well fix it all at once.

that sounds pretty solid man
I had an ECM go out once on a 300Z
it was in the distributer
car would not start
I believe your in the ballpark
it would be real nice if you could hook a diagnostic tester on it though
it would tell you exactly what was up
