    #21541784 - 04/13/15 01:11 PM (9 years, 1 month ago)

Just birthed 5 cakes...my sgfc lid isn't airtight...you can take it off easily its an old tote...am i going good?
Or should i cover some holes its roughly 1/4 holes every 2" on all sides.

and how to measure the humidity level inside the chamber without using a device?

Your SGFC is not suppose to be airtight. Beside, how could it be with holes on all 6 sides every 2 inches?

Don't cover the holes.

Mist the cakes when the outside of them gets dry. Then fan them to help evaporation.

Most people mist & fan 2-3 times per day. May take more or less.

Another way to tell if your cakes are getting too dry is they will become very light in weight.

BTW - you don't want them to be soaked all of the time. They need the humidity to fluctuate for proper pinning and growth...

How can you gauge the humidity?
Mist when the mushrooms are telling you to mist. No more, no less.
The lid is fine.
