Fruiting chamber drainage
    #21533263 - 04/11/15 01:52 PM (9 years, 1 month ago)

We just finished rebuilding the fruiting chamber with inclined pallets and pond-liner so finally have some drainage, hooray!

My question stems from a disagreement with my partner. In my opinion the water needs to be taken as far as way as possible given the circumstances due to its potentially high content of contaminants. In our current situation the best solution here is to pipe the drainage out of the small barn where the fruiting chamber is, take a couple of right angles and have it drain into a flowerbed. We only have a drop of a 8 cm to work with and there is no other nearby drainage system we can connect it to easily. In the long term we will probably change this but whilst we are still seeing if this project works we're not going to destroy the garden & patio quite yet...

My partner is of the opinion that we don't need to take the pipe round the corner. She suggests that we dig down in front of the barn and then fill up the hole with gravel, earth and moss.

Obviously we don't want to be sending lots of bleach into our flowerbeds so the short term solution is that we can disconnect the pipe just in front of the fruiting chamber and drain into a tub when we want to use bleach in the fruiting chamber.

Any ideas? I hope I've provided enough info, ask if not. Help a fella sort out some mild marital strife why not!

Thanks in advance

Well assuming you have positive pressure in your grow room nothing is coming back in through the hole.

Though ideally you want a tall U bend (tall for the slight extra pressure) to stop crawling/flying little b'stards from coming up the pipe (as it stays full of water).

Marital harmony resumed!

I had mice invade thru the last drain pipe I made.  So I'd bury it under the ground and into some field drain pipe.  The kind with holes in it.

Ok, interesting. What stops the water in the u bend becoming horrendously disgusting?

The water you flush though it. So the water in there will be the last bit of rinse water.  You can always add a small bit of bleach last if you want, but as I said no air will be coming back. But it will stop flies, spiders and mice. Not sure about slugs.

im assuming you mean a p trap (US). that's what i was going to recommend. there are p traps in every drain in your house. it won't hurt your grow

and i'm voting for gravel drainage downhill. just keep it out of the walkway so you don't step in it and then walk into your room...
