Help me please confused and scared.Dont wanna kill'em....
    #2153778 - 12/03/03 02:22 AM (13 years, 7 days ago)

Hi all,
Im a newbie and im so scared to do smthing wrong.i got a couple of questions to experienced people.i got 1 panaleous and 1 equador brix from mm.org.i made my own chamber with a hitbox filled with some water and i put an aquarium heater and bubbler in it.i put a brick in water and a tray filled with some perlite.my brix are staying on perlit.ok the humidity is pretty highand temp is around 24-25...iguess its ok..now;

1-can i add some bleach in the water to keep it sterilized???and can i clean my chamber with bleach all the time maybe with some antibacterial detergent??

2-when i opened up the brix there was no white stuff on the surface.it was just vermiculite with some white dots.yeah there was some looks like fuzzy white fur but it was not completely covering the surface o' the brick.so i guess its normal??does it mean the mycelium growth did not start on the surface yet??am i right on my thoughts?? ok after 3 days some white stuff started appearing on the sidez of the brick..its fuzzy how can i say if its an infection???and that white stuff is growing so slow..what is that mean???

3- should i put them in a dark place until i see those pins???like ummmm..how can i say????UMMMM..like incubation..should i
leave the lights on to birthing those brix???any ideas??

if you can help me i would be so appriciated...
thanx all.............eren

use h202 in the water and sterlize the aquarium with alchol 91%

u need a high temp like 86 degrees to colonize, and i have a nice comfy cool temp like 65-70 for fruiting, im not fimular with these bricks tho and as far as contam, if it looks like cob webs its contam if it looks like stringy veins sorta its mycelium dunno some one can explain that one better probly. 99 times out 100 i use the sence of smell when it comes to white contam if it smells like shrooms your a go if it smells really nasty u got contam but i find straw give a diff smell then cakes so again some one could probly answer this better im not to fimular with these bricks

to birth it takes about a week to see pins just giv it light for 1/4 of the day put the light on a timer and u should be fine
dont forget u need to fan out the chamber 2 times a day but i find if you dont have a huge set up go get a bs air pump and some tubing

2 things.

1) I dont know what brix is. Maybe Im just really tired.
2) Don't attempt to grow the Panaeolus species just yet. Grow Psilocybe cubensis, (The Equador strain).

Do you have a link to information or pics of these "brix" ???

You can use bleach to sterilize your perlite AFTER you've had a few flushes.  Sometimes substrate or spores might fall onto your perlite.  You can remove the perlite, take it out and clean it with a combination of bleach and water (look on the side of the bleach bottle for dilution amounts).

Most of the time you only need 2-3 cap fulls of bleach for every 5 gallons of water.  You don't need much.  And thats why you shouldn't use bleach on your perlite while its in the terrainuum.

Use too much bleach and you may get cholirne fumes :frown:

Perlite has no nutritional value, so nothing will grow on it.  You just want to clean off anything that may has fallen onto it.

Distilled water and some H2o2 is fine   You can't use too much H2o2.
