Hi all me again ^^
I was eating some haribo giant strawbs yesterday when I looked at the label and to my surprise the sugar content fitted perfectly @ 3.34-3.78g per sweet, 42g per 100g, each sweet was 8-9g. The ingredients are all non artificial and come from plant and fruit extracts, its slightly acidic, almost no salt, no idea about mineral content etc. Its a lot cheaper than organic honey.
My theory was that since these are made from extracts and manufactured, they wouldn't contain endospores, and be very low on the bacterial front.
Ingredient and nutrition details: http://groceries.iceland.co.uk/haribo-giant-strawbs-220g/p/55603
I prepared some to see what the end result looked like, as I guessed it would be cloudy like grain slurry. I looks like cloudy pink lemonade. I would have to follow grain slurry observations, as in it must turn clear, else its bad right?

What do you think, should I inoculate it? Or am I looking at fail?

It's going to be very hard to see any kind of growth in that, I would try something a lil more clear

Too cloudy as mentioned.
I have used clear apple juice in the past. I would use a sachet of brown sugar before that, if buying is an issue.
You only need a very small amount of sugar in your LC. Workman of sporeworks recommends only 0.1-0.5% malt extract in LCs. I find lower works very well.

Hehe yeah I know, cloudy like grain slurry :S. I was hoping with would turn clear and leave only fluffiness inside. I've seen posts with success with grain slurry LC. I'm happy to inoculate and leave isolated.
Buying is not an issue, just wanted to see if it worked lol. ATM im looking at LC teks, got a honey LC on the go atm, and was reading about slurry. I was hoping this would be a clear and not cloudy liquid. It seemed thumbs up apart from that, given the fruit and plant extracts, no salt and slight acidity.
Bah im gonna inoculate it anyway, make observations, can even do side by side vs honey, hope it turns clear xD
I also built a test kit for testing LC, will leave one spare.

Well its turning clear as I expected, after 2 days I have a 2mm clear ring on the surface. I left this liquid to settle for 24 hours before inoculation to see if it separated, It did not.

Something is eating the food, cant say what, its only been 48 hours so it might be bad, not currently conclusive.
