Books slaughtered on the big screen.
    #2153578 - 12/03/03 01:10 AM (17 years, 5 months ago)

I just saw the movie version of Less Than Zero. They managed to change the book into a formulaic film with an anti drug message.

What other books have been butchered in film adaptations?

One Flew Over the Cookoo's Nest. It was OK,but the book is a lot better.

Micheal Crighton's The Lost World.

also the movie made from his book "Sphere" was TERRIBLE.. It was excruciating to watch. The book was so good, I expected so much from the movie.. and then it was so horrible that even without the expectations it fell flat, twisted and broke its ankle.. Then coughed up a huge pulsing pile of after birth onto the face of its viewers... His books are often fuckorized =\

I never read the book, but I liked the movie. That shit happens.

Most of stephen kings books have been visually brutalized!

ALthough the films are outstanding and I have loved them all so far, the second Lord of The Rings, Two Towers, varied greatly from the actual happenings in the book. They even had people saying and doing things that other characters were supposed to do. I guess it's just the fact that I've read the trilogy 6 times and I plan to read it again many more times, that I get so tweaked about the changes.

I thought One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest was good. The movie was fairly faithful to the book, but it's a shame they changed it so that it wasn't from the Chief's perspective and they got rid of the strange psychotic delusions.

Anything by Stephen King (Pet Semetary- uuughghghgh...) or Michael Crichton (Even the first Jurrasic Park movie bit ass compared to the book- they had to make it PG13)

That Spawn movie was terrible. Matter of fact, most comic book movies are terrible, though they have been doing a decent job with the new ones.

I thought The Shining was better than the book.

Most of the movies made of his books fall a little short, but it's not like he's the greatest author around to begin with.

Maybe not the greatest, but damn near!

Have you ever read the wizard and the glass? Blackhouse? Insomnia?

Of those three I've read Insomnia. It was okay.

read the dark tower books.

and the Stand. and IT.

Stephen King has a lot of great novels, but i like him best in small doses. Most of his short stories are bomb. Night shift was the best, IMHO

That was my main problem. Chief Broom was an instrumental part of the book. I can understood how difficult it would be to translate that stuff to the screen though.

The movie was good, mainly because of Jack Nickelson and the lady that played the nurse,it's just that the book was so damn good it was like a mockery.

See, i'd say the opposite is true of Creighton. As an author, i find him bland.

Case in point:
13th Warrior: sub-par book, fantastic movie.

Ken Kesey swore he would never see that movie, not because it was bad or anything, but just because he couldn't stand to see Randal McMurphy given a face.
