Cross country move, how should I prepare my plants?
    #21534903 - 04/11/15 08:49 PM (9 years, 1 month ago)

I have some Salvia Divinorum and bitter Calea Zacatechichi plants and cuttings as well as various Trichocereus seedlings(4momths old) that I am taking back with me.
How can I best prepare my plants for the move?

I'm moving from Texas back to the north east, in New England where its still snowy and cold.
I have a plastic tub that I am putting them in, with a lid on top. Is this a good idea, or should they be covered?

Please give me some tips. I don't want to lose my Salvia or Calea plants.

You should buy some hot hands for that point when it's gets cold in the container.

Why not you mail them and have someone you know care for them or is that no good? :goodluck: with it all.

I gave all of my friends some established strawberry plants and it was practically a race for them to see who could kill theirs first.
I like the hot hands idea, I'll pick some up.

Should I keep the container lid over them, cracked or completely off?
The trip should only take about 2 days, 3 at most unless I find something interesting to stop at.

If you got space in thw front seat put them there. I've never had to deal with something like that. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I moved a ton of plants from Kentucky to Florida during the coldest winter I've ever experienced here, last year.
It was 8 degrees out when we loaded up all the plants.
I also had to move them all back within a few months, and I didn't loose any.
Pack them in Rubbermaid tubs, and make sure they don't get bumped around.
It helps to put all your plants on last so you can check on them need be at rest stops.
Oh,I forgot,I moved mine in a u-haul truck.
