Habitat: Wooded valley field, western Oregon (Cave Junction), growing from the earth that is water-logged and covered with dead grass. Grew solitary, but abundantly.
Where does it grow? Eg. woods, pasture, state, province, country, altitude, etc. What does it grow on? Eg. soil, dung, wood (dead, living, what kind of wood?), etc.
Gills: Pale brick red, same as cap and stem. Gills attached and descending with obvious separation between stem and gills (Like a chanterelle). Color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc.
Stem: 3-4"X.75" Pale brick red, non-fiberous, can become hollow with age but usually dense.
Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc.
Cap: 5"+/-, Pale brick red, somewhat dry cap, round like a russula and slightly concave in age like a clintocybe. Diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc.
Spore print color: Was not taken.
Bruising: Bruises blue, but looks deep indigo because of the red pigment.
Other information: No veil at all.

I can't give a picture or spore print. These were some mushrooms that I found about 7 years ago. It was the same year as the under-water mushrooms discovery, which I also found in my creek.
I went through mushrooms demystified, but couldn't find anything even close! As best as I can describe: Vibrantly colored like a clintocybe (Pale brick red), size of a shrimp russula, all parts the same color (No spore print taken), bruises deep purple, bloomed only that year (I lived there about 7 years), solitary, but plentiful. The gills were descending, but stop abruptly once the cap becomes the stem.

I think that I should also add that I don't think that they were psychedelic. I didn't eat them and doubt that they would be good for it. They seemed like a bad stomach ache to me.

One possibility, based on your description, is Lactarius rubrilacteus. This species (or group of species) has a purplish latex when the flesh is cut or broken.
Identifying mushrooms from a written description is tough, especially for me.

There was no latex. Basically it was built like a large russula with the characteristics of a clintocybe or chantrelle. Rich color, meaty, large, descending gills that abruptly stop, bruises deep blue, grows in a "marshy" valley field surrounded by trees (mostly conifer, but some deciduous, like madrone) grouping was solitary but plentiful; about 10' between.
This is really just a mushroom that I want to know if anyone else has seen. I've only seen it one year in one place and I've been mushroom hunting for 10 years. Wanna buy some matsis? haha
I couldn't find it in any books and doesn't match anything that I know.

i think someone mentioned lately (might have been Alan) that older Lactarius won't necessarily leak latex.
mountainplayer might have called it
lets hope you find them again
