discussion: AI development
    #21523816 - 04/09/15 11:55 AM (8 years, 9 months ago)

So it seems to me that the major players in the tech industry are pushing development of AI. Intel, Amazon, Google, Tesla, etc. It also seems that implementing some of this development into consumer goods is a great way to keep funding r&d.

Intel for example started developing their "real sense" technology about 3 years ago for use in AI. To provide AI with 3D sense input at a level of accuracy and customizability that didn't yet exist. But at a consumer level it has nothing to do with AI. It is advertised as a camera technology to enable photo editing.

What I would like to discuss is, why is there such a huge push for AI, and secondarily why is the consumer market so willing to fund, test, and extrapolate usage of these technologies?

If true AI is possible, is it inevitable due to our infatuation with new technology?

I think that if it weren't profitable, it probably wouldn't be happening in today's world.  But, that said, I think superintelligent AI can revolutionize civilization beyond just economic and technological concerns.
