saving a strain

from 2 dozen brf cakes and 3 lc's i have one very slow only 75% colonized brf cake left that actually colonized from 3 year old frozen samples of hydrated spores.
my question is when i do go to birth cake should i - take a clone from myc and what do i put it in ? (no agar here)
trigger fruiting and take a tissue clone , agian put it into lc or grain ?
or my last option and my back up plan if i do get fruit will b spore printing as many caps as i can.
just reading and find alot of outdated teks ppl now scoff at, like honey lc tek i was told is terrible for cloning ...
any info from ppl who actually have saved a strain would be great ! thanks

Thanks.
Yeah, agar agar is super cheap. The high-end stuff can be expensive, but we (and a growing number of researchers, actually) can make do just fine with the food grade stuff.

Try an ethnic asian grocery, if you live in a mid sized city you should have one.. one where they dont speak much english. Bring a photo on your phone cause if they dont speak english too well they might not know what you are looking for, at least thats how it is in my neighborhood

you can PC a thin layer of grain in a jar or a short and wide sterilizable container. and then put your clone tissue in the middle of the grains, then it will grow out and you can with a sterile tool remove some colonized grains and use it like a grain petri if you really cannot find agar anywhere.

Is there a particular reason why not? Dunno how I'd ever source synthetic filter discs or some of the specific syringes and needles I've needed without.
