Tuesdays P. Cyans and a pheasant surprise
    #2151635 - 12/02/03 01:07 PM (13 years, 11 days ago)

Well I was at the UW library and took a walk around campus for an hour this morning. Here is what i saw on campus.

One cluster of P. cyanexcens in a lawn at the edge of a mulched area where someone had raked the pinners and they were gone. But there was scattered woodchips caked with mycelia all shreaded in the mulched bed. The shrooms were at the edge of the grass.

and then after a brief walk-a-bout I observed this pleasant pheasant tripping across the grassy knoll.

Sorry the imge blurred. I tried to get as close as possible and then he ran like a coward into the bushes.

mjshroomer. It was hard to focus the camera and set the modes before he started to run.

What is cool about the cyans is that the one on the right has deposited spores on the blades of grass directly below the large shroom. See the purple tinges on the grass made by the falling spores of the spore deposit. They are beautiful and one shows a little chocolate-brown to the left of the purple tinges on one blade of the grass.

Then the lawn mower comes along and runs the blades right across the mulchbeds and edge of the grass. This spreads spores int ot he surround grass area along the mulch beds and that is where the shrooms should keep gerowing after the ground mulched area is depleted for the season.

Sorry again about the blurred bird.

Nice find.
Was that pheasant down in the Montlake area?  I think I ran into that thing yesterday by the IMA.

No it was actually on campus near Mary Gates hall where the computer las are for the students. I approached it slowly and it begant o move slowly and as I got about twenty feet form it it ran into the bushes.

It was pretty. I just mentioned to Peyote zen how a racoon got into our house last winter in the U district and the police came and got some animal shelter people to come rescue it formthe house. I think they took it to check for rabies and then they release them back into the wild somewhere.

mj

Those were the only shrooms i found at that spot while walking on campus/
