Casing stalled? With new casings
    #21509518 - 04/06/15 10:10 AM (9 years, 1 month ago)

I have recently made a casing with 50/50 verm and peat moss, I used a brf cake to spawn it. Its been 2 weeks and a few days and I put it in my PMP yesterday. The mycelium growth has looked the same for a few days now, I have misted it about 3 times when it looked dry. Am I doing something wrong? I have also patched it once or twice

This first one was 3 days ago

This was the same casing today

And this is healthy casing I made a week after the first one. The first casing is 2 weeks and 2 days old, the other one is about a week and two days old. Is my first one just doomed since it has completely stalled out of is the mycelium just establishing itself? Also I have misted that casing about 3 times as it looked dry and as I misted it the mycelium seemed to dissipate.

You use only 1 (one) BRF cake as spawn to how much substrate?

1 cake for I think 3 cups of verm and then 50/50 casing, not exactly sure on that. But I have 2 more casing that are lager and also only used 1 cake and the mycelium growth looks alot better and those 2 were made a week after this one.

Heres the second casing

It's not straight verm it's like an inch of Vern, sliced cakes, and then 50/50 casing of verm and peat

Unless im misunderstanding, It sounds like you're using verm as a bulk sub. Regardless if you case it or not, that's spawning to bulk straight verm.

Sliced cakes? That layering thing is outdated you're supposed to crumble your spawn up and mix it in the sub evenly.

Nowhere did I see you mention this is your first grow. Don't be so butthurt anyway. I'm just trying to help you achieve a higher b.e.

OP: Not trying to come off as a total dick, but you clearly have more research to do. You can't come into the mush-cult forum looking for advice with some half-assed growing method and not expect to get some criticism. There is TONS of info available and many folks here that will try and give you advice along the way. For a first grow it's best to try and replicate a tried and true method. This will give you some exp on growing cycles, hydration, evap, lighting, FAE, etc..

All that said, your colonization times will be slow due to the fact that your spawn ratio is on the low side. You evap and hydration (or lack of) are a mystery since your fruiting chamber choice hasn't been elaborated, but that would likely explain the need to mist as often as you have been.

Fair enough, I have done plenty of research and this is a method I found on here. And it's my second grow actually, I just recently did cakes. I put the casing into a PMP hydroponic setup that I used for my cakes and its been there for about 2 days now with constant misting and fanning

Please stop calling a bulk sub a casing, you're just confusing everybody.

Alright I get it. But instead of complaining how I don't know the correct terminology multiple times how about you give me some advice or tell me what to do about my current situation?
