Survey on Monotub colonization time.
    #21509432 - 04/06/15 09:50 AM (8 years, 11 months ago)

Hey shoomerites. I'm currently midway through my first ever grow with WBS and coir/Verm/gypsum. I spawned my grains to the bulk substrate a couple nights ago and I'm curbing my excitement by taking a survey on Monotub colonization times. Because of the nature of Monotub spawning, I don't expect the size of the tub to be very important, but if it is...o, wondering about 66qt monotubs. What are fast colonization times? What are slow? What is average?

Depends on the spawn sub ratio but I would say average is 8-12 days.

i dont remember but i think it was all standard-(6 qrts-66qrt mono) i was to noob to change anything from the proven methods.

while dunking the tub after harvest it broke into 3 pieces, this revealed to me that the substrate was only colonized in layers. and around all edges.
that's all i remember.

I've got 4 tubs going right now, playing about with ratios and hydration levels.

My higher spawn, higher hydration level tub is going into fruiting today at 14 days.  The higher spawn, lower hydration looks like it will be another 3 or 4 days.

My lower spawn, higher hydration tub is going to be ready around 10 days, and the lower spawn, lower hydration looks like it's really struggling to take off, and might be closer to 3 weeks before it's ready to fruit.

So, just in a 4 tub experiment of conditions I'm seeing a range of 10 - 21 days depending on spawn ratio and hydration level of the substrate.

Do you have a thread logging this experiment? Would love to see results, and compare pin sets across your tubs

I haven't posted anything on it yet, but I've been working on chronicling the whole thing so I don't lose sight of where things started and how they turn out.
There will be a thread for it soon.
