PC Vs large pot
    #2150936 - 12/02/03 12:35 AM (14 years, 14 days ago)

I just want some insight into sterilizing @ the moment a cat has only a few small pots to sterilize its jars and thinking about investment options, one option is to fork out for a PC (new or second hand) or buy a large stainless pot I know many will say go for the PC. BUT........
The thing cat wants to know is those who boil sterilize how long and @ what temp do you do this taking into consideration possible damage to BRF , Dung and birdseed substrates
At the moment With the frustratingly small pots cat uses the fractional sterilisation tek Boil 1/2 hr wait 24hr then 1/2hr wait another 24 then 1 hour it seems to go ok on the few cats done so far but... is it nessicary & will it damage the substrate ect.
I guess I just want a but of speculation discussion and youre opinions.
thakz trev

A friend who boils pours water in a few inches up the jars, then boils on medium heat for an hour to an hour and a half and it usualy provides decent results, just be sure not to take off the lip when they are done cooking, let them sit in the jar with the lid on over night to cool. But if you have the money defenetly go for a PC..

I've never had bad contam problems. I boil my jars. I put four jars to a pot, you can't stack them when boiling, I think you need to have them in the water to receive the heat transfered from the water. Just place the jars ontop of some paper towels so the jars don't crack, maybe about 4-5 and poke a hole in the center so the air bubbles can pass through. Bring to a boil and then turn the heat down and let simmer for about 45-1 hour. Foil ontop isn't really a big deal either if you use medical tape. Johnson & Johnson premo shit, waterproof. Hasta.
