Tyvek envelopes print side up

I'm not 100% positive this is what happened but the last 3 batches of WBS I've done I've been using Tyvek envelopes for filters, just so i can get rid of them, but everyone that I have used with the inner part of the envelope facing out, print side down toward jar, all contaminated, i didnt see the pattern untill i had gathered them all to dispose of but all were done g2g transfers and each bach I did have a few jars that didnt contaminate and the envelope print was facing out. Is there an explanation for this or is it just coincidence?

Coincidence I assume. I've used them both way and never had any problems.

Probably just a coincidence but...

If you use tyvek, get cloth tyvek such as chemical protection suits, or kite building tyvek. Construction grade and envelope grade are different weaves and not as effective. RR

post office tyvek is not medical grade, nor is it suitable as filter material. When it works, it's in spite of its use, not because of it. Post office tyvek is very thin, and distorts in the pressure cooker, opening up some pores and closing off others.
Use medical grade tyvek, cut from coveralls. RR

I think it's a stretch to say it's not suitable as a filter material. Inferior perhaps, especially if you're reusing them.

I would never reuse tyvek of any kind. It's literally free or at the very least, very cheap.
I use micro pore tape to tape 3/4 inch cutout tyvek squares over my 1/4 inch GE holes. I always redo them every time.

Post office tyvek is not suitable as a filter material. Period. Anyone with a microscope already knows this. Simply pressure cook a piece of PO tyvek and then look at it through the microscope. You'll see holes two to three times the diameter of a mold spore. This is not new news, we've known it for years.
For everyone who says, "I used PO tyvek and it worked" I can show a grow where someone used no filter at all, only leaving the jar lid ring slightly loose with no holes in the metal lid and that worked too. We're not looking for a 50/50 chance of succeeding. We're looking for a 100% chance of success. RR

I put a layer of micro pore tape over my PO tyvek(or paint suit tyvek, depending on what's around). I cut out a small square of tyvek then tape it over a 1/4 inch GE hole. I make sure to tape all the edges down, but with only one layer of tape over the part where the actual GE hole is. Do you think that will both allow sufficient GE and proper filtration? Never had a jar stall, and my contamination rate with molds is under 1 percent. Just curious of your opinion, Thank you RR.

I've since this old thread, switched to a proper GE filtration material. I buy CFD(cellulose filter discs) from Alohaculturebank.com. I also get the one piece regular mouth metal lids to go with them, with the standard 3/4 inch GE hole pre-drilled by them. They're cheap. If you're even somewhat serious about wanting to succeed, just invest in these bad boys. They'll last you ages if you treat them right while inserting/removing and keep them dry with foil, they're very high quality.
If you're okay with cutting corners like I used to( ) then double up on your tyvek. Paint suit tyvek is higher quality than postal tyvek. Even though I never had any measurable issues with my postal tyvek filters taped down with micropore tape, I still switched because I wanted to tighten my technique as much as possible. I used to tape down one square of tyvek with 2 larger squares of micropore tape. I suggest against this though.
Do it the right way. And please stop resurrecting threads back from when I was a noob.
