Hi, I have a 2 pound rye bag ready to be spawned to bulk. Would it be ok to put two of those plastic ziploc containers together (on top of each other) to put the casing in then fruit the mushrooms (with coir/verm)? It would be about 6 inches in height -or should I get a bigger and taller heavy duty bin from target? also Im fruiting some cakes, How big of a container should I get for 5 cakes? Would A bigger plastic bin be ok if I put more perlite in? What size Should I get for the best results? If you have questions or im not clear about what im doing Ill post back with more info. Thanks for your help,

Did you just say your sub is gonna be 6 inches deep?
Your questions are sporadic and frankly, are not clear. The size of your SGFC is dependent on how many cakes you plan on fruiting. If you're going bulk, find how much sub volume you will have, find a tub that will be appropriate for that given amount.

Please do not refer to spawning a bulk substrate as a casing. Coir/verm is bulk substrate material.
They used to refer to a bulk substrate as a casing, but now it just adds confusion. Its called a spawning to a bulk substrate, not casing.
A casing layer is a non nutritious top layer usually applied to a fully colonized bulk substrate for moisture retention and pinning. When you do this it is called casing, see where it can get confusing?

more cakes=more humidity as cake level. pretty much put as many cakes in as you can. in my 66qt tub i had 12 cakes or 24 staked cakes.

I mean the 2 ziploc containers would be 6 inches tall, and I would put 2 inches of substrate in it.

If I do a bulk substrate would I need holes in the container like with a SGFC?

No. The general rule of thumb for a monotub is 6 holes. 2 on each long side at roughly sub level, then 2 holes on shorter sides towards top. Your holes should be about 1.5 inches big. Some people have them at 2 inches. Smaller holes are better you can always make them bigger if you need to.

it's not the size of the hole that matters, but how tight you can stuff it
