temps, better to err on the side of...?
    #2150481 - 12/01/03 09:29 PM (13 years, 6 days ago)

my heating pad on low keeps the temp at 85-90 degrees. a little cooler at night. without the pad, the room temps are around 65-68, also a little less at night.

ive tried different methods to solve this to no avail.

any suggestions? if no suggestions, should i err on the cool side or warm side? im thinking warm, but would like to hear input.

I have had the same troubles keeping my temps right since winter is around the corner. I have been using an electric blanket to keep my temps stable.

I have my pint jars in the box they came in with the electric blanket wrapped around it.

I have been able to keep the temps around 80-85. I check the temps at least 2 times per day.

i would say keep it warm, if at all possible try to put the pad inside a tub but not on top, like 1 foot away to keep temp at 82-85 degrees. or put a blanket between the pad and jars to try to lower it a few degrees.

I imagine you are talking about the incubator. To drop the temp, place a towel between your pad and the incubator. If still to hot, then put another towel. Do a layer or 2 at a time. Not sure what your are talking about here"should i err on the cool side or warm side".

well if you err on the cool side itll slow down growth but it can resume later. If you err too far on the warm side (90+) you'll kill the mycelium. So I'd say cool is better as long as they don't freeze.
