Which infections are you referring to?  what species?

Anything depends on how it grows. Pedio and homofermentative lacto would be undetectable likely in normal sugar % that LC uses. Bacteria behaves very differently depending what's available which stressors it has to deal with, temp, and disolvex oxygen levels.

How could any bacteria hide in a lc, seeing how they multiply very quickly.  It seems like that mass of billions of bacteria would have to have some kind of visual signature.

do you have any pictures of any of the contaminants? that would be a good thing to post in this thread. kizzle has a pretty good collection of contaminant pics hes compiling in his journal. that would be a cool thing to show in lc's.

Depends some things like ecoli reproduce like that lactococcus sp. Some have day long splitting times. Depends on avail nutrition too.

I'll post some pictures of lc seeded with different things I have some pictures of bacteria from LC made with MRS broth and YPD broth I'll post pics of the see thru clear lc too next time

bodhi has some great microscopy pics of bacteria in LC. He has posted them a few times.

I once had an LC that developed a yeast contam which I traced to a cracked jar rim, that looked fine. Looked healthy. I shot up a bunch of jars and they colonized great. Went back to the LC a week later which still looked awesome and had no recovery with the second round. Decided to dump it out and at that point realized that it smelled like liquor. But it looked great.

like this isn't millions and millions this is example of about 10,000 per ml bacteria if it was cloudy from bacteria it would be more like 10^7 or more

might also be worth letting the bacteria grow throughout the lc so you can see what it looks like on the large scale as well. to the human eye that is. and you know throw it out after for the sake of the picture.

Having that much bacteria is way beyond the point of failure and is not visibly detectable either.  Letting it get worse until you can tell with your eyes doesn't seem to be the most efficient method either.

I meant if there is any contam present on the encapsulated grains, and, or a thwart in sterile procedure of the inoculation of said LC that the LC will breed the infection like rabbits, and become infected.  No where to run.

when you use this lc gun do you intend to give the lc a good stir on the plate for a few hours prior to using it in case of any clogging.

man, this is going to be fucking epic!!

:levitate:

Yes, the LC is intended to be stirred on the stirplate for a while just before aspiration.  I'm pretty stoked to begin research with this gun.  Next obsticle is going to safely lubricating the trigger with the right lubricant.

In comparison to needle/syringe work?  The clogging of this LC gun seems virtually impossible.  The tube to the LC gun is 1/4" thick.  Don't know how wide the syringe barrel to the LC gun is, exactly.  Can tell you that the syringe barrel is wider than 10-12cc syringes.  Not as wide as 60cc syringes though.  The unit has an interchanging luer locking system, so any gauge needle can be employed to dispense the culture with.

http://www.singerinstruments.com/solution/sporeplay/

if you could afford this it would be extremely useful. you could do single spore studies and make varietal hybrids with ease. but with the extra long focal distance objectives you can view petri dishes at 400x which is crazy.

yeast cells are about the size of cube spores. the spores from the yeast are way smaller, just for reference.
