I need an iphone 4 passcode hacked

I have a client's iphone 4 with a passcode, but he doesn't know the code. I need to try to get text messages off of this phone. I have talked with several experts who say there is software to hack the passcode, but it's not worth spending the money to have them do it if the information isn't on the phone. Does anyone know what this software is?

Ummm, I think you might be able to if you put the phone in DFU mode
Plug your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad into your Mac or Windows PC and make sure iTunes is running. Hold down both the Sleep Button (on top of your device) and the Home Button (on the front underneath the screen). Keep them both held down from about 10 seconds. (If you see the Apple logo, you've held them too long and will need to start again.) Let go of the Sleep Button but keep holding the Home Button for about 5 seconds. (If you see the "Plus into iTunes" screen than you held it too long and will need to start again.) If the screen stays black, that's it! Your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad should now be in DFU mode.
While in DFU mode, try doing a restore on your iPhone from iTunes..... Pretty sure that will wipe the whole thing.
That is, if by "getting them off the phone" you meant deleting them... I suppose it's another issue if you meant reading them...
If you can plug the phone into a computer and find out which version of iOS it is running from iTunes iphone tab (may have to show the sidebar to see it) and summary, that would be helpful...

I meant reading them. Also downloading them, but reading them would be a good start.

Gotcha. Well, see if you can find out the firmware the phone is running by plugging it into a computer w/ iTunes, like in that picture, and we might have something to work with.. There have been a lot of loopholes around the passcode over the years, but ultimately Apple has patched them. However, many people don't even fuck with updating their phone OS, so you might be able to exploit one of their bugs.

Maybe one of these passwords would work....
 http://ios.wonderhowto.com/how-to/thieves-unlock-passcodes-stolen-iphones-and-protect-yourself-against-it-0139559/
If that fails, install an easy linux distro like mint on any computer, plug the phone in, mount it (Its likely automatic) and then copy paste the needed files from the phone onto the computer. Here is a rather simple video showing one way to do this.

I tried the trial of this app decipher textmessage 8 and it worked with my locked iPhone 6...
https://deciphertools.com/download-decipher-textmessage.html
However, the trial only shows one message, so you need to pony up $29.99 for it... but you can at least try and see if it works first...
FWIW, there's a 30 day money back guarantee.... which I guess you could use if it didn't get your message
Here's a free way of doing it, but considerably more complicated:
http://ios.wonderhowto.com/how-to/extract-back-up-all-your-text-messages-picture-messages-from-your-iphone-your-mac-0150342/

Your way didnt work. It won't mount until the code is entered and even if it did, I couldn't get the text messages that way.
His free way requires the code as well

Did you try it? As I understand it locks only the screen, not the phone and you should just be able to mount it like any other device without the proprietary apple software installed.

It doesn't even see the device until I enter the code. I tried it on a phone I have the code for.

Not necessarily, the computer has to be "trusted" by the phone... That is, it needs to have been hooked up to it prior to use this method (like your client's home computer)... It would work that way.

What operating system are you using? I read more and ios 7 onwards might of made it harder to mount iphones on linux, I don't have one to try.

Well, that software has a 30 day money back guarantee and is supposed to recover deleted messages too... so if you don't get 'em, you could always go for the refund.

I gave it a shot, but that software requires that the messages be backed up on iTunes before it will work. If I could do that, it wouldn't be a problem.
Thanks for trying. Hopefully, I can find a local forensic guy to do it for a reasonable price.

Ahhh, I guess my phone is wirelessly syncing backups, so I mistakenly assumed it was pulling it off the phone, but in reality it was off my macbook.. But really there might be a simple backdoor into the phone depending on what version of iOS it's on, I remember there being one with Siri (which you can use while the phone is locked) for example that made a big stink...
STEP 1
Connect your iPhone to your computer with the USB cable that came with the device, then open iTunes.
STEP 2
Click the name of your iPhone beneath Devices on the left side of the program window.
STEP 3
Select the "Summary" tab on the right side of the program window. Your iPhone's firmware version appears to the right of "Software Version" in the iPhone section.
If you can do that and find out the firmware version, there might be hope.. just depends on which firmware.
