people tend to find worth in money and power.

i don't. i find worth in the capacity for good, and in creation.

what is there worth in doing on planet Earth?

Be good.
Be a good friend, a good lover, a good everything.

While you recognize a solid layer of negativity, realize there is a solid layer of positivity also in every human. There is a bit of a cosmicjoke here when you realize this. Our typical actions and behaviors can be seen with a bit of humor with an understanding of the yin-yang in everything.

we're not all bad, but we have those creeping thoughts and act on them.

Realize your potential to be unlike anyone around you and live in sincerity and genuineness.

People will recognize this. It may take some time, but it will happen.

Since I've gotten my shit together (beginning just a year ago today) I am starting to emerge as a leader in my community, and I'm only 24.
Lead by example, do good.
Good actions easily outshine bad ones.
If you can't find the capacity for good and creation, it speaks more about yourself then planet earth.
'dont give a shit what people talk about fam, haters shake my hand but i keep the sanitizer on deck.'

yeah, that's what i think too. but good gets little appraisal and negative gets winning appraisal. also negative gets given more chances to do what it does... while good gets very little chances, if any at all... and must work to do itself, and have no help. negative gets alot of help.

Is your own self-development not valuable? I suggest starting there.

i develop myself all the time. i do lots of work on myself and my skill set. thanks for the suggestion. but i'm not gonna cram med school, physics and political science... plenty of people are already doing that and making no real strides... but we can be patient though, and MAYBE something will happen in those very important fields.

Good has the element of surprise and if recognized by ones unknowingly doing bad, has the potential to really change a persons outlook and behavior.
It can shock the 'bad' right out of someone, if only for a moment, and create temporary autonomous zone of righteousness.

I've seen it happen.

Good checks bad all the time because we inherently are able to recognize the superiority of doing good.

If you reword 'God' in every religious text as "Good" a novel perception may show itself to you.

what about those knowingly doing bad? how do you change those minds? because they're the ones doing all the damage. they're the one who knowingly effect people's lives for the worse.

Having the money and time to spend to make things right, to fix things, to improve things, to have a vision and the ability to make it happen with a little help from a friend or two.

Of course, I could be sitting around making excuses about nothing being worth anything, but what is the value in that?

nothing being worth anything? who said that? i hope you're not implying i did.

no, i think creativity and striving for a capacity for good involves using that money and power for those reasons. few do. most just sit on their money until they die. in fact, most rich people do just that. and most middle class families, too, considering that they are opting for survival, and just barely. so they have no real choice but to keep as much money as they can. but rich people, on a regular basis, (especially those in power, in nations) love to squander resources and simply sit on the rewards of their enterprises. that's not spending " to make things right, to fix things, to improve things, to have a vision", now is it?

but now, if and when people (rarely) DO do that... then it's right up my alley... it's doing the creative, and imploring for the search for the capacity for good.

Unfortunately, at some point it becomes less than cost effective to really make a house "right".  If one has to hire an electrician, a plumber, etc. etc. one might as well forget it.  Then, attention to detail, and really prepping surfaces and using quality paint for example with two coats of primer and two coats of finish paint takes time time time and money at $70 a gallon for the best exterior paint.  Do people appreciate it?  Probably not at first but when they don't have to paint for 20 years versus 10 and it's peeling off then they will.

Rich people have largely become rich from either inheritance and speculation, and if it's from real estate you can bet they don't spend a lot of time applying wood filler and primer.  They hire the probably low bid painter to do the typical "blow and go".

which is definitely not of any worth. it's LESS worth, because they like to squander their money with making mountains out of it. instead of spending it in their lifetime like any rational person would.

To get the basics of the word 'worth', I would explain its meaning as sacrificing something but attaining a greater outcome as a result. Its almost like a leap of faith but more calculated.

Some people sacrifice a lot for cash. Is it worth it? Maybe to some, increasing your standard of living to a non-poverty level would always be considered worthy. But i'd say to most its just a trap so it isnt a better outcome considering what you sacrifice.

But ultimately each individual has to discern their own personal greater outcome that speaks to them, so that when the sacrifices need to be made in order to attain it, they feel it is worth it.
