Question about WBS jars
    #21490105 - 04/01/15 09:45 PM (9 years, 1 month ago)

What is the average colonization time from MS SYRINGE for a WBS jar? What would be considered fast? Slow?

My last batch of MS (GT) grain took 20-30 days using polyfill jars, Pennington wbs, coffee and gypsum 12 hour soak 10 min simmer and 1 hour drain used about 1ml of MS bought from a sponsor per jar. 68-75 degrees in my closet.

From what I've read fast could be 12-15 days and slow I've heard of 2+ months

Referring to how long it takes to see the first signs of colonization or how long after seeing the first signs till it has finished?

Either way there's really no telling. It's far too subjective.

could be anywhere from a few days to over a month too see the first signs and can take anywhere from like a week and a half to 4 weeks to finish depending on genetics, temperature of room, and even your jar shaking habits if it's grain.

100% colonization 10 days from MS syringe inoculation is HIGHLY suspect.  Spores take on average 5-10 just to germinate.  Sounds like contamination.

I've recently received a syringe from a vendor that was germinating in a average of 3 days and ready to shake within a week. definitely not my average times for being ready to shake . Suspecting germinated spores in syringe.

Funky

Thought that too.  Figured if that were the case though that OP would have noted that.  Pics and a description of the inoculm would tell the story.

Heres a 5 jar sample. You can see they are all really colonized. Just trying to get a scope as to whether or not 12-13 days is okay....you are supposed to spawn immediately...no consolidation?

Been logging this grow on the shroomery you can read the log Here

With grain spawn, you are correct.  It's not a deal breaker to not spawn as soon as full colonization is reached, but spawning your grain spawn as soon as the grains are fully encapsulated with mycelium is the best plan.  Full colonization is when myce is at it's most rigorous.  Myce just divides cells the longer it sits in jars as grain spawn.  Use it, or lose it.

Now having see your jars, the level of suspicion rises.  Sorry to have to break it to you, but those jars don't look good, man.  Is there anyway you could give the myce a sniff?

Against my better judgement I quickly opened one of the faster growing jars gave it a good sniff. If smelled only like wild bird seed and mushroom. No foul smell at all. I feel like you're just trying to scare me? What looks off about my grain jars? Up. Lose in perfect you can ,ale out the rhizomorphic nature of the mycelium...it looks like great mycelium to me.

Be afraid.  Be very, very afraid.

Nah, your jars look like shit to me is all, but if you say that the sweet scent of mushroom mycelium is detected upon sniffing them then the green light to proceed to the next step in the cultivation process is granted.

This thread wasnt me asking for an opinion on whether my jars looked healthy or not, it was a survey on what are fast, average, and slow colonization times for WBS grain jars.

I've had jars from ms syringes take up to a month to fully colonize, btw a couple of your jars look like they have some uncolonized spots :strokebeard:

Yea which lead to my opinion of your jars looking like (shit) they were contaminated seeing as how fast they became fully colonized from point of inoculation.

This is a public forum for annon drug users.  Expect to run into differences of opinion and points of view that differ from yours.

Yeah they are just almost there. I'm really just trying to learn about grain growing...was looking for some information to get some stats concerning colonization time for WBS grain jars.
