Is it okay to hydrate my Shiitake block in tap water?

I know Stamets says DON'T use tap water because of the chlorine. He says
if tap water is all you have let your tap water sit out for a few days
so the chlorine dissipates or boil it. I have like 10 blocks going and
it's gonna be a pain in the ass to dechlorinate water all the time. I
would like to know how big of a problem the chlorine really is? I
understand that to use non chlorinated water is the best way to do it
but can I get away with not doing it. Will the mushrooms not fruit
because of the chlorine? Will the mushrooms have chlorine in them?
What is the real issue with the chlorine? Would I not be able to call
my mushrooms organic because of the chlorine? Is there someone out
there that has been hydrating their Shiitake blocks in chlorinated tap
water for a while and never noticed an issue? Thanks

Saw this
Quote:
Use vitamin C tablets to dechlorinate water. Depending on the brand, 1 tablet can treat up to 100 gallons (378.5 L) of water. Dechlorination tablets work well for bathwater and hot tubs.

Wow! The vitamin c thing is awesome. I can use just regular vitamin c tabs from the drug store right? They don't have to be dechlorination tablets meant for dechlorinating I assume. I imagine as long as you get the mg right you should be okay. The dechlorination tablets say they are 1000 mg. I should get some chlorine test strips and do some testing.

It would be cool to see how effective Vitamin C is at dechlorinating water. Post back with your results!

i know humic acid will help get rid of chlorine. if it is regular chlorine it will dissipate if you let it sit out in like 24 hours. if its chloramine, it is hard to get rid of. call your water company to see if they use chlorine or chloramine. or you can buy a test kit
