Riiiiiiight.  So as per my previous post you now have a shit ton of spawn and 2 months to use it before it gets old.

See the link in my sig for calculations, but basically at an 18% yield and 7 weeks fruiting to get it, for 100lbs/week you will need 100/18% x 7 weeks = 3,890lbs of sub in fruiting and 2780lbs in incubation.

McC. No disadvantage I know of. I accidentally split a bag of spawn just after opening and had to  dump it in one sub bag giving a 30% spawn rate.  10 days in IC, Picked 15% yield 15 days after that. 2nd flush on way!

Wow!

So....

Maybe I need to look into this! I'm paying the same price per kg for bran and wheat.. And the limiting factor in my current setup is max inc. capacity of around 300 or 50 a week at 6 weeks. Even cutting that in half would be an exciting thing. A little bit more manip. fiddling with bags so we'd have to see if thats worth it of course..

cased/uncased? Keep us updated on that second flush!

Yep pretty much. 10 bags a week for 6 weeks. Then I'll fruit 10 bags at a time staggered by hopefully only a week. Is this a dumb idea? I don't know a ton about mushroom farming but everyone has to start somewhere.

I'm not try to get to 100lb a week right away. Just going to get an idea of my yeilds. now I've got plenty of spawn to get all the calculations, method, expiriments ....... Isn't this how everyone starts their farm?

i usually have 2 quarts of spawn going at a time per species. one for inoculating bags (4 per week atm), and one for G2G to use the next week. after G3, I start again from agar (once a month). except this damn winter wheat contaminating messed me up! i've never made more than 1 gallon of spawn at a time. idk what i'd do with it all. i'm just getting started. i want to hone in my techniques, facilities, and recipes before i go big so i don't have a big loss when i mess up.

I'm only concentrating on one spieces. I'll also start the desirable mushrooms I grow on agar as I go through the 60 quarts of spawn. Should be interesting! I'll update after I do my first round of bags.

no but put a plate on top of your bags to keep the plastic from blocking the pressure release holes when the expand

Btw, we had our second flush and it was only a 100g of mushroom or so, not worth occupying fruiting room real estate for...

use it asap. you'll need a butter knife or similar sturdy tool to chop it up in the jar

A grain jar of kings with pins like that should still break up just fine after banging it on something for a bit. Shouldn't need to reach in there with a knife just yet. But yes, use it asap.

looks pretty solid to me but definitely do try to break it up before you open it, too. good point. someone here told me they folded up a phone book and wrapped it in a healthy amount of duct tape and use that to bang their jars on. i tried it and it works wonderfully

I haven't seen a phone book for years ha ha, but I'm sure I could figure something out. Transfering jars to wood chips saw dust whole oats and gypsum this weekend.

I think you can still see a little bit of grains through some of the mycelium just to the left of that pin cluster. The pins also don't look too big to me. I've busted up grain jars that had much bigger pins.

At first I'm so sorry for my bad language.
I've many experience to growing King oyster.
My suggestion would be to open the jar and use a disinfected spoon, remove the pin and use the grains.
I did it many times without problems on pasteurized.
Even with some of my wild strains, with these results.

Thanks all for all the advice! Much appreciated!

Okay I'm getting ready to soak my sawdust and grains and put them in my filter patch bags. How do I seal them for pressure cooking? Or do I just need to pastuerize? And is it pretty much standard to case with pete and verm?

I'm gonna say PC, pasteurising SD is tricky in my experience. The bags don't need to be sealed (or they'll explode). Sterilise them for 2 hours at 15psi, let the PC cool and then open it in front of the LFH when you are ready to inoculate.

We're using just peat (and hydraulic lime, 1:100 volumes) and it works fine.

Good luck!
