Meh, I heckle noobs and that's about it. I'm apparently really good at staying out of the politics wherever I go.
Anyway I have a grain LC with an island like the one the other guy was talking about, and the island has shot out several small mushrooms as well. I had no intention to use the LC after the first week of growth but I've just kinda been letting it go because why not, at this point.

So after shaking up the jar it looks like a wet marshmallow. It has also doubled in size taking up the entire jar.

According to Agar, any good LC (has enough nutrients and GE) will create a mycelium mat on the surface of the liquid if not shaken enough. The stir plate/bar can help make the task easier.

agar said: Any decent LC - with gas exchange. Left un-agitated. Will sooner or later get a myc mat on the surface.
Which is not a really GOOD thing. (unless you have a powerful stir plate & bar combo)
Because, the mat gets thick, spongy & will PLUG syringes. (because the mat becomes a fairly solid mass)
This is an LC, that is just beginning to form a mat.
This is a THICK LC, that was stirred every time a mat began to form.
This is what happens when, after a mat is formed, & you stir the LC. Mat is one tough SOB to break up.
This is about optimal mass in an LC.

 It was not agitated.
Simply left alone in an incubator.
There is a healthy big ball of myc in the solution. (50/50 light dry malt & dry dextrose)
That is not the point.
The point is that myc grows thick & rapidly on the surface. Which, (IMHO) proves that gas exchange in an LC leads to optimal growth.

LC from spore/mss is dangerous because of the unknowns in the syringe, correct? Would a colonized grain or sample of healthy mycelium from a healthy, but not fully colonized WBS jar be a safer route?
I have a pint of LC that has sat for going on 3 days and is not showing signs of contamination. I'd like to drop something in it while I wait for my first agar in the mail.
Thanks, y'all.

Lets say a single grain in your master has endospores germinate. A far more common occurance than most people realize. It wasn't until I started to really drop a lot of colonized grains onto agar and messed with Muda bottles that I realized how common it can be. Anyway that grain is not going to cause a lot of issue if G2G or spawned. The number of other uncolonized grains it will have enough physical contact with to expand the bacteria will be fairly insignificant. However as soon as you add a large amount of water, a small amount of bacteria in one grain, will expand (not grow) through the water to contam a very large part of the grains it then comes in contact with. You may be able to identify that the spawn is bacterial before you spawn it. But your still out all that spawn and time. Not worth it.
Even then any cultivator that has been around the block knows that you can see a flush with bacterial spawn. I have seen lots of bacterial subs go for several flushes. At that point the culture has a lot to do with it. Aggressive genetics will overcome better. But you will see a greater incidence of molds moving in sooner than they would normally. GLC can work. But there are better ways IMO.
Bacterial substrate

Of course you can try if you want to.

You are correct. The reason it's dangerous to hit up LC with MS is due to the unknowns in the syringe. Best way to inoculate LC is with a known clean culture on agar.
Patience Daniel San. Best bet is to wait for your agar to come in, get it colonized, and knock up you LC with live culture on agar wedge from a petri dish. You can always store your LC in the fridge and re-sterilize your LC come time to inoculated it.

As well you should let your agar sit for 2 days, to make sure its not contamed after making it. Who does that hmmmm?

Same goes for LC, let it sit for two days after creation to make sure you actually sterilized it and filter has performed.

if there were visual signs of contamination in all LC then there wouldn't be QC labs in juice/lemonade/alcoholic juices/cider/wine/beer/dairy/ etc.. industries. nutrition in differing amounts etc... you simply can't see every contamination only the bad ones.
