if you read this whole thing, you'll be an expert. I read it when I was a Pink Floyd fanatic back in the day, and it made me really appreciate the movie a lot more.

that's your opinion, but
nnnoooooo way, I highly disagree.
Wish You Were Here and Animals especially are masterpieces hardly matched in creativity and musical genius.
except, for the part that Sid went crazy and left. yeah that's true.

Most of Pink floyd say they could never write like Syd except for Gilmore hes abit jelous i think since the only reason he played with floyd was to replace syd he even claims he taught syd how to play guitar .the band it self says he was the genius. Waters says in all his years of writing he never came close to Syd i highly agree.it took along time for walters to write good songs when syd was way above his level in his 20's he only would have gotten better .no other floyd song can compare to astronomy domain, interstellar overdrive, apples and oranges

I'm not a hardcore Pink Floyd fan so dont take my opinion to heart but I think the Wall takes the cake by a land slide compared to Wish you were Here. Animals was defiantely good as well but still doesnt come close to the Wall. I definately felt the vibe in Animals but was'nt really felling it in "wish you were here"

The Wall, Wish you were here, and Animals are each wonderful in their own respect, though I think the wall is the better of the 3. The most effort and thought was put into it. And it is mind blowing to watch with Alice in Wonderland.
Termor-to answer your question- the Wall is based on both Syd and Roger. Roger is the young boy, and then Syd is the crazy guy. They both embody "Pink".

The first ever song Roger Waters wrote was Set The Controls for the Heart of the Sun, and that's alright by me for a first attempt!
I think Barret was the greater talent in terms of classic pop songs; Waters wrote something more spaced. But Animals is my favourite Floyd album. I think Waters is a twat but I love some of his music. Very varied in quality tho.

Who is this Pink Floyd guy you speak so highly of? Is he some kind of musician or something?

Havent seen The Wall in a long time...
I was reading the brief description, about the boy, just born, who's father dies in WW2.
Wierd that's EXACTLY how The Who's "Tommy" starts, too. Except "tommy"'s dad is a bomber pilot, I think.
Wonder who did it first...

I don't know who to respond to, but in interviews, Nick Mason and David Gilmour have said that Wish You Were Here is their favorite album, the only Pink Floyd CD you can just sit and listen to nd enjoy rather than get heady about everything.

Pink Floyd after Syd barret left were a completely different band or at least sound wise.. Although there most popular work was made in the 70's Piper at the gate's of dawn and Saucer full of secret's were by far the most original..
