Here are the photos from yesterdays hunt with art2312:

Habitat - Community Park
Pine flatwoods / palmetto scrub

Amanita sp.

Polyporus sp.

Lentinus sp.

Caterpillar

Habitat - County Preserve
Pine Flatwoods w/ cattle lease

We couldn't identify this species.
They were growing on palmetto stumps in a recently burned area.

There's a lot of cap variation.

Sporulating moss

Small polypore on a cool looking downed log

Turtle/tortoise shell

Ganoderma sp.
On pine stumps

Brown anole

After our hunt I went alone to another preserve because I had time to kill

Habitat - County Preserve
Old oak hammock / Grazing pasture

Almost ran into this spider's web

Ganoderma sp. on a downed cabbage palm log.

?

Panaeolus papilionaceus

Amanita sp.

Poronia pileiformis

Pycnoporus cinnabarinus

Poronia sp.

? On oak deadfall

More Polyporus sp.

This polypore looks ancient, any ideas on species?!
Possible Ganoderma applanatum?

Is this a Boletus sp.?
Looks like it has a mutation.

?

Is this Ganoderma?

Prickly pear flower

More Poronia as I exited the preserve.

It was a fun day!!

Sorry you didn't get to see those Panaeolus, art!
Haha, maybe next time (along with some copelandia :awesomenod:).

? Oak deadfall is a Phylloporus. Sic finds brotha!!! Im interested to see what everyone has to say about the Lentinus lookin ones, in the burn areas!!

OH! And if that that Amanita is A.virosa...?

That's a European species, in the southeast we have a few species from Amanita section Phalloideae, notably Amanita bisporigera and Amanita elliptosperma and Amanita virosiformis. Microscopy is needed generally to tell these apart, KOH can help.

At a glance the "Boletus sp.?" is Tylopilus rhoadsiae and the Polyporus is Polyporus arcularius. The dried-out white mushroom with the question mark above it could be a Leucocoprinus. Great job recently with all the photos and finds you have been posting!

It seems like the season is starting early this year, I'm psyched! :awesome:

Just print all of your next finds, scrape all the spores into a two liter bottle with water in it, and walk  around spraying the grass in the field. The cows will eat the grass. Ive done this every year since ive been hunting and my fields produce awesome every year. Your way would work as well.

New to the forums. Went hunting today for the first time at a cow patch down in s. Florida.. But it seems like someone beat me to it haha. Seen a bunch of already flipped patties. I'm going to go when it rains next time.

Quick question. How many days do you wait after the rain has came into the area?

Hey suplex, welcome to the Shroomery. I found the answer to your question in this link: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/2263556 , you should read through the rest of it as it may answer other questions you may have. Glad to have you aboard! :smile2:

5. Do not make threads or posts discussing or reporting the weather.
This includes complaining about the weather, asking if the current weather is "good for shrooms", or how long to wait after rain fall to go hunting. If it has rained within the last 1-10 days, and the temperatures are correct for the type of mushroom you're looking for, and the time of year is correct then it is certain that that the mushroom you are looking for is growing.

I've seen that a lot. Keep in mind, some animals will search for bugs in cow pies. It could be birds that flipped the patties over!

Either that or we've got a shit-flipping bandit on our hands!

Hear ye hear ye, to all newbs at hunting cubes:

(I'm not accusing anyone, this must be said from time to time)

"Flipping a cow patty is like cutting down a budding tree just to pick a premature fruit from the top branch." -- the Starshepherd

There is a small window of time in which the weather may be right for fruiting;  anything that sets the mycelium back, even a little, will cause it to focus on repair or water retention instead of fruiting, so flipping is terribly counter productive.

Exposing the underside of the paddy at best retards its potential mushroom yield, at worst, completely kills the mycelium by introducing foreign spores, light, bacteria, and insects.

Besides, there is never a need to flip a paddy;  if you don't see shrooms coming up from the sides or the top of the substrate the climate is not right for fruiting shrooms, please go home and leave the patties unmolested.

To reiterate, never ever flip a cow paddy;  you may find a small nasty slug ridden micro-shroom, but the act of moving the patty (substrate) causes unnecessary damaged to the relationship between the white webbing stuff (mycelium) and the ground. The paddy's underside is a delicate dark microclimate that is essential for future production of quality yields flush after flush.

Please Don't Flip The Cow Patties!!

Peace, and long live the Shroomery
