There are very few wild mushrooms that taste bad. Usually when a book says that a mushroom is edible but not very good, it is actually a great edible but the chef sucked.

I was just talking about Panaeolus tasting bad... but I didn't even think of personal opinion when it came to edibility! I've always just trusted the "inedible" marks that I've seen given!!
Is their some reading material about the edibility of "inedible" mushrooms that you'd suggest?

I don't know of any, you just need to try everything that isn't toxic.
