TO patch or not to Patch THat is the question?!?!?!?

people I know have started a casing It has a few spot where the myco is comming through and like 3 spots where it is really thick but it is thier first casing should they patch and risk contams or just enjoy thier first cased flush?? What would u guys/girls do if u were in thier position?

i would go ahead and fruit it as soon as mycelia is visible. worry about patching on the next attempt

I thought myco was suposed to be visable all over? if it is here and there fruit it?

That's the point of patching. You patch so that the rest of the mycelium can catch up to the first fast bits that poke out. I love the benefits of patching, but if you are proned to contams then just fruit.

It will definately affect your yield.  I don't know how much, but I know when I've seen patched casings they have nice yields.  The yeilds are usually better than casings that are not patched.  Then again, you could lose your casing to contams and have no yield.  :shocked:

Yeah but it depends on how little you let it colonize the top layer.

use a clean knife and just push some of the uncolonised casing material over the colonised stuff....works fine.
