NEED LOTSA REPLIES TO LOTSA QUESTIONS
    #2147338 - 11/30/03 06:44 PM (13 years, 6 days ago)

hey everyone, I have many, many questions. i have four fully colonized b+ jars and am contemplating whether i should do the single cake method for each or if i should use the casing method. This is my first time and so far, I have taken all precautions and out of 15 inoculated jars only 5 were contams. I am really worried about something going wrong in the casing and losing the whole crop. Is it okay to put an almost colonized jar in the casing along with the fully colonized jars? How many days should it take before I see pinheads? How many days on average before the whole casing is done with the four fully colonized jars. Can someone give me a link to a description of what cold shocking and dunking is? How many grams dried should i have after casing is complete with these four jars? Can anyone give me tips from past experiences of casing of what to do and what not to do? What temperature should the tub with the casing be at? I use direct light, correct? How many times a day should I mist them? Thanks for your help!

Since you have 4 jars, i'd use 2 for cakes and 2 for a casing so you can decide for yourself what you like more and get some experiance. In a casing my friend usualy sees pinheads about 2 weeks after he starts the casing. For detailed info on casing search for it in the FAQ and look up the casing part of the main page for more casing info.

I would do all casings (like 1 pint of spawn a piece). If you did them on bird seed, great, if on BRF you can still crumble and case. Look it up in the FAQS. A tip on "dunking" casings. What I do is crumble the colonized substrate in a ziplock bag and then add distilled water to it. Not too much. just more than it can readily absorb. This is a great way to re-hydrate your "spawn" before casing, though it's not technically dunking. If you have 2 pints of B+, you should get at least .5 oz dry. Twice that if pints. More is possible, but not likely for a newbie. B+ is a great strain to case. It pins by itself, really, so you don't even need to dunk or cold shock it to be successful, just to beef up the fruits a little. My 2 cents.

Don't think of it as contamination. Think of it as competing organisms.

http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/7977 and that is the 50/50+ casing method, both of these casing methods are easy and productive

I would just birth them since it is your first grow. That is the fastest way to shrooms. Then on your next grow do a casing. That way you will have a better feel for the hobby.

Dunking gives the cake more moisture to make shrooms with. Cold shocking will help induce pinning, giving you shrooms quicker. They are both easy to do and WELL worth the effort.
