DON'T EVEN TRY AND ARGUE THESE BASTARDS EVEN GIVE ONE FUCKING SHIT ABOUT LIFE IN GENERAL. THEY TRIED TO GIVE US THE TERMINATOR GENES YEARS AGO THAT WOULD HAVE SPREAD TO ORGANIC CROP GENETICS. THAT IS A FACT PROVEN AGAIN AND AGAIN BY THE AMOUNT OF FARMERS WHO GET SUED EVERY YEAR FOR STOCKPILING MONSANTO GENES EVEN THOUGH THEY NEVER BOUGHT SEEDS FROM THEM. THEIR NEIGHBORS DID. THE ONLY THING THEY CARE ABOUT IS MONEY. THEY TRY AND MAKE THEMSELVES LOOK LIKE FUCKING SAINTS WHEN IT WAS LARGE AG CORPORATIONS WHO GAVE LOANS FOR SEEDS, CHEMICALS, AND EQUIPMENT NOT NATIVE TO AFRICA AND THEN FORCED FARMERS TO NOT GROW THEIR OWN DROUGHT RESISTANT STAPLE FOODS LARGE SCALE LIKE CASAVA. DEBT AND FOOD PRODUCTION CAN BE USED AS NASTY WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION. JUST ASK RONALD REAGAN.

that's an absolute load of shit and was shown in the court cases, you'd have
known it had you read up on the cases, they were sued because they had bought and
used the seed and then saved seed from their harvests for use the following years
without paying royalties on the patent which is why monsanto had won those cases,
just because you're told what to believe doesnt mean you need to believe it
without first checking the facts

here's the one that became the source of this false claim

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monsanto_Canada_Inc_v_Schmeiser
Quote:

Monsanto Canada Inc v Schmeiser [2004] 1 S.C.R. 902, 2004 SCC 34 is a leading Supreme Court of Canada case on patent rights for biotechnology, between a Canadian canola farmer, Percy Schmeiser, and the agricultural biotechnology company Monsanto. The court heard the question of whether Schmeiser's intentionally growing genetically modified plants constituted "use" of Monsanto's patented genetically modified plant cells. By a 5-4 majority, the court ruled that it did.[1] The case drew worldwide attention and is widely misunderstood to concern what happens when farmers' fields are accidentally contaminated with patented seed. However by the time the case went to trial, all claims had been dropped that related to patented seed in the field that was contaminated in 1997; the court only considered the GM canola in Schmeiser's 1998 fields, which Schmeiser had intentionally concentrated and planted from his 1997 harvest. Regarding his 1998 crop, Schmeiser did not put forward any defence of accidental contamination

here's another

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bowman_v._Monsanto_Co.
Quote:

Bowman v. Monsanto Co. is a United States Supreme Court patent decision in which the Court unanimously affirmed the Federal Circuit and held that patent exhaustion does not permit a farmer to reproduce patented seeds through planting and harvesting without the patent owner's permission. The decision was in favor of the plaintiff and patent owner, Monsanto. The case garnered an attention in part of its potential impact on genetic and self-replicating technologies and political concerns over the passage of a bill drafted in part by Monsanto and Justice Clarence Thomas, who previously served as a lawyer for Monsanto. The narrow scope of the ruling made the impact of the case very small, and specifically avoided setting a broad legal precedent.

I see, so this is about the 'evil corporate giants that make profits', you
believe farmers were somehow forced not to grow their native foods like cassava
that was actually not native to the region but brought to the continent by the
Portuguese from Brazil. an interesting point to note is that cassava contains a
cyanogenic compound (yeah, fucking cyanide) and that during times of drought it
becomes more concentrated, that in it's self suggests that it's a nasty weapon of
mass destruction on it's own

you seem to have a heavily distorted version of the facts

Casava is only one example, and the farmer's cases you quoted are cherry picked for your convenience and Monsanto's. American Farmers have been hit with slap suits that keep them from talking to the media, but releases them of restitution to Monsanto. They do this to hundreds of farmers every year, not just the initial cases in 199fucking8. Grow some god damned cherry trees pris!

so asking someone to prove their absurd claims after I've already shown that it's
false is copping out? like seriously, when do people pay restitution when they've
done nothing wrong? why is it that if there are hundreds of these cases each year
there's only 147 lawsuits filed by monsanto in 18 years with only 9 ever going to
court and since those 9 were not out of court settlements have those 9 people lost
their cases not been public with the transcripts proving they are innocent

what it sounds like to me is that you're just as poorly informed as many others
that speak out against the giant, evil monsatan

The world is grossly overpopulated, without herbicides and genetic modification we would likely only be able to grow a fraction of the food that is currently being produced.

If everyone quit their day jobs and grew their own food it would be a different story.

Life spans are greater than than they've ever been, quality of life has sky rocketed in the last 100 years, and we live in one of the most peaceful periods of time in history.

This isn't good enough, let's hate science and go back to the dark ages.

I don't agree completely, I agree that technology is essential to farming - however the current technology and methods are oft largely unsustainable &  are destroying agricultural land and killing off huge tracts of the ocean (which fortunately is reversible, we just can't dump so much fertilizer into the ocean...) - I doubt most large farms even compost or use their waste beneficially

And even if there was more gmo being cultivated and better crops appear I don't think those people will benefit; They are starving cause they are poor not because their isn't enough food. Tons of food get destroyed daily. And Monsanto will never just give their seeds or technology away to the starving masses. It's just some bs they use "ooh think about those poor starving people we're going to feed with our product" yeah right...

Point was plants have different enzymes/proteins than animals do.  Just because something will kill a plant doesn't mean it will kill an animal and vice versa, some chemicals kill some animals but not others.  It depends on their genes.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.” (attributed to Alexis de Tocqueville political philosopher Circa 1835)
